BAHAHA... look at this... I started my project. Cutting 2" off my shifter to make it shorter. I am doing my hting with the DYE. I started with a M12-1.5 and stepped down to a M10-1.5. The B*tch twisted off. Take a Look:

Ok so i didn't know i was that strong!!! But i also didn't know it was completely hollow... So here's the solution. I'm gonna Tap a M10-1.5 thread and put a bolt in there with a nut on the bottom and go from there. Brains beats Brawn again!!!

I didn't realize it was hollow either. Is that a 5th gen accord? I don't think the shaft is hollow in the 6th gens.

I know mine's solid because I pulled apart the entire shifter cage to replace the shaft! I could beat the heck out of someone with my stock bar and it would be fine ..... maybe bloody, but it would work after I cleaned it up and put it back in.
