Hi

I am new to this forum. My dealer says that my accord has a play in ball joints and is asking for $478 to replace those. The car has 97800 miles on it. Is there a way I can verify that.

Is that a right amount to pay

yea thats about what it costs. there is no need to replace them unless your having uneven tire wear. ie the insides of your tires are wearing out first.

Lightshow has the right answer to your questions, how did the dealer arrive at his summation??? Did he even put it on the rack and test the ball joint play???

His price is Quite high!

yea i would never pay 480 bucks to have it done...it only costs about 50 to do it yourself.

Man, I wish I had your mechanical knowledge....and tools! Things like that I just pay the piper, I'm good at many things but nothing that heavy duty. when it comes to steering, brakes, etc. I break out the Visa!

well a machine shop can take out the old ones and put the new ones in if you just take off the knuckle.

got a write up for uppers on an 89 lx? i found a set with control arms with the ball joints already in them that i will probably get...or should i just get the joints themselves and not screw with the control arms?

yeah i am almost 100% sure its the uppers. when in the air i can push on the top of the wheel and it clunks back and forth cause its so loose. my mechanic friend says they are uppers. that are bad. and maybe tie rod ends
