Default "wompf" sound at ignition

Sometimes when we start up the Accord 2006 V6 we occasionally can hear a "wompf"or "thump" under the car. I never really noticed it especially with the radio on until my wife pointed it out to me.

What could this be? Is something being ignited in the exhaust system? Or could it something to do with the fuel system? Is it a normal characteristic?

We called the Honda service center and they don't recall ever experiencing such a problem. Before I take the time and expense to take it in I thought I would ask fellow owners for their input.

We just bought this car about a month ago so we are just getting accustomed to it. It is Honda Certified so it is still under full warrantee even though it has 39k miles on it.

Thank you.

Welcome new member!
The car's under warranty, right?

Check to rule out the exhaust system hitting something. The hangers & pipes are short when cold, they are made so that after they heat up & expand, they hang properly. Still, it shouldn't hit anything even cold.

If you feel like checking, have someone start it while you crawl alongside to look & listen. Pinpointing the location of sounds is the most important first step.

There was a bulletin on this simptom, and if I remember right had to do with the rear engine mount. Not 100% if applies to the V6 - but it's on this forum.
