My son's 1999 V6 Accord Sedan has ~83K miles on it. I believe the manual calls for the timing belt to be replaced at 100K miles. Is it ok to wait about another year to have it replaced or is 100K pushing it? Also, besides the timing belt what else would be replaced at that time. I believe the water pump is one thing. Thx for the help. One more thing, would you recommend going to the dealer to have the work done or a private mechanic? Approximate cost????

Honestly, how is the car driven? If it is driven hard, then replace belt asap. IF your son is a sane driver 105K is fine for a replacement. I have a 98 lx-V6 and I am still on the original belt

Thx man. He is a good driver. Based on your input, I'll wait until next year to change.

One thing to keep in mind when it comes to T-belt replacement,, the miles on the odometer are not the actual miles that the t-belt has on it,,,,,,and it it a lot more especially if you do mostly city driving,, Anytime that cat sits at idle at stop lites or behind traffic, the odometer will not go up, but yet the t-belt still spins .......
I usuall tell my customer that anytime car reaches 80k miles, start saving if need to to repalce t-belt ........
Your car has 83k i would not wait too long to replace t-belt ,,

Desert - We're on the same page. I had a TB snap in an 86 Camry. Bad news. Broke a piston. What else will the mechanic tell me needs to be replaced at the same time. I know Water Pump is one. Any idea how much this should cost us??

at the dealer should be around $640 - $700 and that should include
T-belt
drive belts
water pump
Coolant change
and any other wearable parts that have to come off the car to get to the belt
