I just purchased a 1990 Accord and have some display problems. The MPH gauge and the odometer are not working. Well, the odometer works a little. Every now and again it will roll over a couple of miles and then go another 200 miles without doing anything. The Tachometer is ok, but seems to jump from 2500 to 4000 in a hurry. I know from experience that there is a modulator that the display is tied into. This is a stick, so I don't know if it will be any different than on my 1994 explorer. Any thoughts? Thanks

Where can I find the speed sensor connection? Is it behind the display or near the transmission? Thanks

Sorry for the delay

the speed sensor is located close to tranny

first check the Fuse No 1 ( 10A ) in the dash fusebox

if ok check the speedsensor for ground - disconnect the harness

if you look inside of the connector with the latch on the top - the right pin is ground (black) - d check it with the body for ground- should be continuity.

if there is - check the middle pin (yellow) with body for voltage - (do it with ingition ON) if theres voltage

check the left pin (orange) for voltage with body (ignition ON)- should be apporx. 5V.

if all conditions are met - replace the speed sensor

however it's been recorded with honda that in some cases the whole Main Print Panel has gone bad in which case you have to replace the Main print panel - which you can get at junk yard (check that first)
