I have a 98 Accord and I was just wondering how much oil is good? I checked the dip stick but seems like you cant really tell. So just wondering how many quarts are good. I put in 4. Does anyone know for sure?

just dont over fill it ive heard that too much oil can be worse than not enough i thought most cars hold 4 quarts of oil? maybe its 5 in not sure im not a real tuner i let jiffy lube change mine lol.

park your car at the flat surface - turn off the engine - wait 2 minutes. pull the dipstick out, wipe it with paper towel, put it in till the end and pull it out . it should read between maximum and minimum points,

I have to agree with sixth gen. I've got a 98 4cyl and just changed last week. 4.5 quarts for me with a healthy engine and no leaks. what do you guys think about the Lucas adders always being pushed at the local autoparts stores with the crank shaft displays?

That's 4.5 on my car, never fails.

So I just checked my oil and it is a bit on the high side of the max mark, am I ok? Or should I get messy and drain a bit out? It seems to be about 1/2 qt over-full (referencing 6-gen's comment, I put 5 qts when it really only needed 4.5)

id drain a bit out but thats just me im not scared to get messy ;)

u can never have enough.... i'd leave it as it is...

16 ounces over would put me beneath the car! 4-5 ounces is no big deal.

You can definatly have too much but a half of a quart should be fine
