The worst car ever is of course the car that you own that is not performing the way it was built to work from the factory.
Of course we all must admit that piece of ***T would be performing correctly if it were takin care of correctly with it's recommened maintenance intervals that were not performed...

I happen to be a ford fan but ive always been nuetral to all of this, but if ford is such a bad ride then why are they one of the number one manufactureers in the world?

Evlampius
06-07-2005, 02:29 PM
because they give outrageous discounts for a massive buyers such as companies - brand new cars go for a little as couple a grands - thus bad quality.

FORD is one of the biggest manufacturer of parts not cars!!

and Patrick I totally agree with you

ford is the "most successful" only by their own measure....ford and gm are struggling TERRIBLY..and while dodge is not doing much better, it is doing better than the two...Ford calls themselves the most successful because theyve been around forever...by their standards, cadillac is better, because the company that henry ford originally founded, then later elft, was cadillac...

the first ford truck was actually designed not by ford engineers, but by a pair of brothers, sort of outsourced by henry ford....theyr name, the dodge brothers...

ford calls their truck the best selling? of course..it was designed by dodge..:)

I see Fords are mentions frequently. I have one, (besides my Honda).

A Mustang G.T. conv.

It had a lot of problems, (under warranty), although, they only repaired one of four.

A wrong front spring, (replaced).
Whine in the transmission at road idle, (not repaired)
Two places in the top where there are wrinkles, ( would not repair/replace)
Very slow to return to idle when releasing the foot feet, (wife will not drive) - would not repair.

As far as another Ford - If someone gave me or I won one - I would get rid of it immediately!

Believe it or not.

Wow, i totally disagree with a lot of you people. IMO Ford is the best. If you look at statistics there is more Ford trucks on the road that were built 10-15 years ago, then any other company's truck. Plus they make the best truck, The F-350 Superduty Dually Truck. My dad has one, never has had a problem. Also you have to remember that stands for First On Race Day. Lets also look at another great thing. Thier sports cars give you the MOST bang for your buck. A 29 G Mustang 2004 Mach 1 beats a 31 G 2004 Pontiac GTO. A 37 G SVT Cobra beats a 41 G Chevy Corvette. A 150 G Ford GT POWNZ a 188 G Porsche and a 300 G Ferrari. Thats what matters. Also GM is gonna lay off 1 out of every 6 of their employees. Ford Just recently expanded production at a enigine plant very close to where i live ( Which =s JOBS). Also while i was in europe, i saw about 4 GM vehicles; A lot more Fords, about 67. Now for what i do agree with; Yugos do suck, 100%. Two words that can NEVER be used in a sentence together; Yugo and Fast. But i have dreamed of buying a Yugo and stretching the engine compartment and dropping in a bigger engine and a turbo; and have it put out about 350 Horses; But then i woke up!

P.S. If you dont believe me about the Ford GT beating the Ferrari, look around on Car and Driver.com, you should be able to find it thier, and in their opinions it was there favorite vehicle of the three for overall comfort, acceleration and other things.

Patrick
07-05-2005, 03:56 PM
ford has had endless problems with that AWFUL GT...wheels falling off at high speed? that is one place where they do beat the ferrari...number of parts falling off.

ford trucks sell heavily because theyre cheap compared to the other brands. performance wise, the new ford trucks are no match for the GMs or the Dodges in regular truck things like pulling due to the fact that the new fords are VERY heavy, and they didnt produce the lightning, so obviously performance isnt even a concern of the severely overweight F150

i would like you to show me stock for stock where a mach 1 will beat the GTO, and where the cobra beats the vette..and which vette?

I have a 2000 Blazer which always have something out of order. It only has 60.000 km, and almost every day it gives me a unpleasant surprise. One day are the brake lights, the next day the air conditioner, then follows the oxygen sensors (veeeery expensive), later is the turning light handle, in summary very expensive, recurrent maintenance. After owning my Accord those annoyances are becoming heavier and heavier. In fact it is on sale now.

Regarding Ford I have never own one of them. I remember my father used to have a 1976 Ford Fairlane which was very dependable (as far as I can recall). For what I have seen today, Ford cars seem to have troublesome transmisions and overall as they become older they look much older than other contemporary American cars. I never have own a Ford car, and I think I will never do.

I had a 5 spd 97 VW Jetta. The front engine mount broke twice. Could be when I spin out a couple times. It wasn't designed to take much torque I guess. Parts are expensive too. 700 bucks to fix sunroof, when it stopped working. Didn't bother to fix it though. Water pump broke and so did the dip stick handle! There was a plastic flange that slowly leaked out all my coolent, replace that myself, easy. I kept adding water though, which caused rust. This thing call exchaust recycling manifold, I think, broke too. Cause the engine to have low idle, or sometimes even stops the car. Had to reve engine for it to work. My battery dried out once, I needed to replace a safety switch of some sort, and then the battery. It's still running though.:)

Don't be dogging on Fords. Let's see #1 selling vehicle in the world???Ford PU. 26 or 27 years in a row #1 selling in US Ford PU. I guess they're so bad that is why most fleets are Ford ...Mustang celebrating its 42 year anniversary. 85- present Mustangs are very dependable..Many have 100k and still haul a__. Maybe that is why hiway patrol units use Crown Vics and earlier Mustangs. (Because they are so undependable..they treat them so well you know...never idle for long periods of time) The Ford Explorer took SUVs to a new level, and made the mini van obsolete. Mustang, Thunderbird, GT40, GT, Thunderbolts, Lightnings, Saleens, Roush Mustangs, Shelby Mustangs, 427 SOHC motors, Boss 429 motor...I guess nobody ever wanted any othese b4. Cobras and Panteras used ford motors also because they were so unreliable. Oh yeah Ford took all the podium in 24 hrs @ Lemans from Ferrari with an unsophisticated motor 2 years running...the first to win over there from America. I like Hondas...Oh yeah the worst make Fiat..FixItAgainTony.

Don't forget the Model T. Without Mr Henry Ford Honda would not be around today either.

However I am a big fan of Italian cars. My pal has a Fiat Stilo Abarth, puts out about 170bhp with a Selespeed box (sequential) paddle shift it sounds and feels very quick indeed.

Now Ferraris are something else.

I agree that geo's are the worst but my hubby has a 93 Ford F150 XLT and it is a tropper. It now has over 200,000 miles on it. I would actually say that my 96 Honda Accord with 140,000 miles has given us more of a problem than the ford. The honda is used for family riding and the F150 is used Mon - Fri for dock and pier construction work. We actually plan to buy a Ford Expedition soon. I don't think that chevy products compare to ford. I would never buy any of Fords cars but the trucks can definately hang. As for Dodge I have always thought about what the name of the vehicle says "Dodge". I think the new hemi vehicles would be pretty nice but I would never buy one because of gas prices. I do also agree that no matter what vehicle you have it has to be maintained so that it will perform correctly no matter what make.

The dodge Neon... It was like a piece of crap
The windows you had to roll down and the hazard button was on the steering wheel
The headlight knob was this pully thingy and it took me forever to figure out how to turn it off...
I floored it in the highway and only hit 80 in about like 30 sec.....
My worst driving experience everrrrr
Thank goodness i only had it for 2 days and i got my honda back =):D

I couldn't pick out a manufacturer and say that all their cars are lousy. EVERYBODY has made some real dogs in their time including Honda and Toyota.

With GM and Ford struggling to stay alive I hope they have finally figured out why Japan is kicking their butts......and Korean cars are coming on real strong. The Japanese learned from the American cars many mistakes/problems and topped them in almost every way (except size maybe). The Koreans have a much smaller learning curve because they learned from the Japanese cars.

In other words QUALITY!! The big two are (hopefully) realizing that they can't continue to pay outrageous wages to put out turd cars anymore. It's just too late for this:

Right now.. It's the 91 Honda Ex. Got the car free from in-law so can't cry too much but on a one to one compair.. My 93 plymouth voyager is WAY more reliable and much much cheaper to repair (I have all the invoices). But the accord has 20k more miles then the van. Guess if I wasn't having so much trouble replacing a turn signal bulb, I'd be less critical.

Worst car(s) every produced?

1. AMC Renault
2. Yugo
3. Chevy Vega (as is off the showroom)
4. Ford Pinto

Best cars I've ever owned:
1. 93 Plymouth Voyager
2. 84 VW Jetta

Had both the above for 13 years or more and minimal issues. The minivan has NEVER left me stranded and only been towed 2 times. Onces for a broke engine mount (I didn't want to drive it but could) and once in the driveway, a spring broke in the ignition so it would stay started unless you held the key in the ON position. I would say the Jetta is on par with the Accord I have now but the VW was cheaper to fix, easier to fix and less trouble in the long run. :D

Well the first Fords were pretty much Dodges as stated earlier. Dodge History (http://www.dodgeforum.com/history/dodge-history.asp). In my opinion I say Chevy is the worst. They are more talk than anything else. Ford isn't to bad but Dodge is by far the best and most innovative domestic company. I mean they've invented loads of things used by all car companies such as the gear reduction starter (listen to an old Chevy start [:'(]compared to a Dodge/Plymouth:D). I could go on forever but yea! Just my opinion! SRT-4, Viper, and yup yup:)
Oh ya, now that the new vette is faster[:@] I've heard that new Viper is going to have 600-700 hp :D:D:D:D Take that Chevy!

There's something about owning a car with the same brand name as your cheap microwave that doesn't make sense. So daewoo hits that category. Also would never consider owning Kia, Hyundai, or anything like that. They may be decent cars, but they're the best at nothing and the value drops too frickin' fast.

Oh, and all the ford haters out there must not have checked out the new supercharged mustang. They actually had to put restrictors in the heads to meet all the manufacturing specs they have to go by. I want one really bad.

marbro
05-03-2006, 10:03 PM
Value drops fast huh, but.... how much can a 5 dollar investment drop in the end? to nothing? lol Dawoo, kia, hyundai aka "wishes it were a honda", my opinion, add a scion to that list as well, i think these exist only to please stupid kids that dont know what a car really is.

Nothing but love for ford trucks, they may say found on road dead, but guess what, thats true for any car you dont maintain.

OH, need i remind everyone..... metro.... geo metro...... engine fires from heaven!

I think that VW is very underrepresented in this thread. I've heard of VWs dying on a test drive. I think the worst value award goes to Mercedes Benz, namly thier sports cars. You pay 60k for a MB sports car and a Mustang GT still has a better power to weight ratio.

malcqv
05-09-2006, 09:42 AM
you know apart from a VW Beetle I don't think I have never seen a VW broke down. Unheard of here in the UK.
Both Japanese and German marques are the reliable cars. I would say build quality on a VW of the same age is a little better than (at least) my Accord.

In fact honda used a plastic shiny wood effect on the centre console. This has all cracked and broken around the shift. There is hinged door over the cigarete lighter and ash tray, the hinge has broken on one side so now it comes out[:@]. Oh and the coin box holder is in the boot now.

And to cap off now the power aerial has broke and a new mast is £40. The A/C does not (and never has) worked.

However when I get in the car I know it will start and get me to where I want to go.

Mine was built in the UK though!

I know Merc went down hill a bit a few years ago but I believe they are back up there now.

mbo1985

AgentofDarkness
05-09-2006, 07:33 PM
The funniest thing is to try and explain to MB driver's that thier cars aren't fast. For some reason they just don't understand why a car they paid over 35k for can be beaten by a car that costs under 25k. And in the states, VW are known for wierd electrical problems. MB is also known for poor build quality in the last couple of years.

The worst car ever is, as stated earlier, the Geo. We were basically forced to rent one, or walk 15miles to our fancy hotel. When we pulled that up it was the most embarrassing thing ever. There were like 3limos, a few mercedes and what not....and our Geo. With Ford, half the reason I dislike them so much is that so far, everyone I've met or seen that drives a Cobra has been pretty full of himself. Plus my buddies expedition's engine literally fell down out of the car; I don't know the whole story but, thats pretty bad.

As far as the best car within a decent price, the new Z06. It's very comparable to the Ford GT and the Porsche Carrera S or GT or (one of those), and it's half the price of either of them. There was some report comparing those three cars that I read about. I just have loved Corvettes since the day I got into cars.

AgentofDarkness
05-10-2006, 12:08 AM
I'm gonna have to agree with you on the Z06. Ever since i got into muscle cars, i've liked the older Stingrays. I don't really like the Corvettes of the 80s and onwards, but the C6 i love. The Z06 is an absolutly amazing car for the price. If i had 60gs i would buy one tommorow.

When I was a kid, in the UK we had Custom Car and Street Machine magazines. I fell in love with the Mach II Mustang. I still sort of like them, but realise they are a bit big. I do like the late 60's ones now though, particularly the fastback. Engine size does not really matter so long as it is a V8.

Were the Mach II's really that bad?

Whilst I am on the subject of American Muscle, my pal has a 1970 Dodge Charger 500 383ci. See link (http://www.holden2.co.uk/cars/charger/default.htm)

Thats a really nice Charger! (sry to get off topic). I know quite a few people here that have Chargers. In fact in my town a guy has two of them, one blue and one silver. In the silver one, everthing is either chromed or gold plated. Its insane....ill have to snatch a picture sometime.

Police use Crown Vics becuase there is nothing else available for the longest time. The Diplomat dissapeared in '89 and the caprice followed in mid 90's. Now that Dodge has brought back the RWD platform to the masses, you will see almost every single police department run back to them with open arms.

enough said.

Crown Vic's have 2 serious issues

Fire

and

113mph due to composite drive shaft.

Ford Taurus was really the only good car if you did the following

upgrade brakes... who in the world puts 11" rotors on a car that weighs in at 3300+lbs? by comparison Honda's 4 cyl accords from 94+ have at least 11.5" rotors and 2900lbs V6 cars get even bigger brakes. The taurus did not get Accord quality brakes until '96 10 YEARS after they knew about the poor brake performance....why is that you ask? They were too cheap.

replace rad with a larger one on 3.8L

replace strut bearing plates

replace subframe bolts/mounts with solid ones

weld in suppots on the underside of the unit body to make it way stiffer.

I really liked my Sables- All 2 of them. The first one a 89- honda could not hold a stick to that car in terms of torque, space, and feature list. even in '92 the Sable was a better choice than the accord if you wanted room, V6, and quiet. My 89 lasted 196,400 miles of hard driving without so much as a whimper from the drive train. The '92 was totalled in 2000 at 143K (I t-boned a guy who ran a red light)

I had to do a lot of mods to get the car to have acceptable braking performance and chassis stiffness. The engine on the other hand was fairly easy to mod and get gains from porting and polishing and the overheating issue is easily solved by "flowing the heads" (opening up the cooling passages in the cylander head as they were too small)

(can you say supercharged 325whp 3.8L?)

IMHO I think GM is by far worse becuase they refuse to learn from their mistakes. They still produce cars based on 18 year old chassis technology, use cheap suspension components, and use engines that really need to be updated to more efficient designs. GM needs 3.8L to make 200hp while Honda only needs 3.0L to make 244??? I recently drove my dad's 2004 impala and I took him for a ride in my car and he could not believe the difference in quality and noise level when you ask the engine to get down to business. They have gone as far as to outsource Honda's 3.5L/5spd auto for use in their Saturn line becuase they cannot or are unwilling to make a design of their own.

Ford appears to see what has happened to GM and are despartely tring to fix things.

Chrysler leared a while ago and are making some kick butt no questions asked cars that people can actually afford....

The worst cars I have had in order (starting with the most rotten) are :

1. Tata Estate (Tata Motors). They probably make five of the six worst cars still made in India.
2. Ambassador (Hindustan Motors)
3. Premier Padmini (Fiat)
4. Maruti 800 (Maruti Suzuki)

I forgot about the Chevy Vega....aluminum corroding and adding just as much oil to the engine as gas to the tank!

Yes the older ones were very strong using very thick steel for the body, but the newer ones not so much, using cheaper materials. The Maruti cars were pimp lol, my grandparents has one of those, use it every day.

I would have to say that VW is one of the worst. There was a website that a guy made about his car once that broke down so much the dealer wouldn't fix it and he put giant stickers on his VW saying 'lemon', can't seem to find it.
