View Full Version : Sonata...Not the first time...
This isn't the first time that Hyundai has stolen the look of an Accord. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, may I please present to you Item #225,000,000,000,000,000,000, the 1992 Hyundai Sonata.

And Item #1, the 1992 Honda Accord

Bas***ds switched the turn signal with the brake light and thought they were sneaky.
And don't think they stopped at Honda. Oh, heavens no, that would be a sin. [sm=sigh.gif]They've even started copying Toyota. :(

sir_nasty 03-27-2007, 02:53 PM I've seen that a couple of times.... There is another example of similar stuff they've done.... it's kind of funny that they don't get into trouble for it....
Well, they can't. I'm sure that they get yelled at by Honda and Toyota and other companies, but there's nothing thatthey can do about it. All they have to do is change the lights a little bit or change something small about the car, slap their name on it, and then put it on the market.
You know what, Hyundai is really starting to piss me off. Now, after Honda has come out with the Fit, their first small hatchback, Hyundai is coming out with their first, too.

03Sleeper 03-28-2007, 06:58 PM those sneaky koreans...and once they modification the schematics....they're home free.
now if they start stealing pieces of honda's engine...that'll be an issue.
poser_pilot6 03-28-2007, 07:54 PM Why is everyone hating on Hyundai? Its not like auto manufacturers havent been stealing design cues and engineering ideas from each other for years. And Hyundais sell pretty darn well, so apparently they are doing something right. They actually make a pretty good car.
marbro 03-28-2007, 08:33 PM yeah, they can make them for cheaper by taking other companies leftovers ^_- lol
I know poser, and I agree with you on the fact that they have been stealing ideas from each other all along, but it's just the fact that they do it way too much that makes me kind of mad. And I'm not doubting that they make a good car, I'm just saying that they should at least try and make and sell that good car by themselves instead of looking at other companies to steal their ideas and designs so often.
I mean, look at all these examples again. They did the same switcharoo with the lights on the Hyundai Entourage like they did with the 1992 Accord.

I have to go eat dinner, I'll be back in a minute, but I've got more examples.
poser_pilot6 03-28-2007, 10:03 PM Okay, let it go dude. And in case you dont know, you cant compare Kia and Hyundai, because they are sister companies. Its like saying that Ford is copying Lincoln.
I know they're sister companies, but come on. I just think it's stupid. Don't worry, I have let it go, I'm just pointing stuff out.
poser_pilot6 03-28-2007, 11:26 PM Yeah, but pointing out similarities between Hyundai and Kia is stupid. Thats like pointing out how a Chevy looks like a GMC, or a Dodge and a Plymouth.
vtecHef 03-29-2007, 01:44 PM I think they need to find a look of their own.. its really getting old and i dont know why people buy them...
Top ones the Fake the others a real Jag.....

http://www.gallagher.com/honda_accord_2004/2004_honda_accord_rear_side.jpg
Theres no way anyone can say these 2 are not similar !!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah vTec, they've already discussed the Sonata in an old post, and that's why this is titled Sonata...not the first time... And I was about to put the pictures of the Jag up, too. So, nice catch. No one can copy a Jag.
vtecHef 03-29-2007, 02:12 PM Oh i see my bad i didnt realize they had already posted it... it just makes me mad ! Espically when people say they dont really copy ?!?!?... like how can you honestly say that? Oh well.. just another one of those things
Yeah, it makes me mad, too. They could at least steal everything but the design, that way no one would know.
poser_pilot6 03-29-2007, 06:47 PM People buy them because they have a great warranty and the amount of options you get for the price is pretty good. Also, the fit and finish is excellent. Right now the wifes next car is either going to be an 07 Sonata or an 07 Accord, it just depends on who will give me the better deal.
Oh, it'll probably end up being a Sonata. I gurantee it.
poser_pilot6 03-29-2007, 07:12 PM I dont know, it depends on what kind of "new model year closeouts" they have. I plan on buying after the 08s come out, so they will need to get rid of the still new 07s... Dealerships can get pretty eager to deal around that time :D
sir_nasty 03-29-2007, 07:16 PM compare the matrix, versa, focus hatchback, and the fit and I bet you'll find a number of similarities.... then toss the daewoo and civic hatchback in there and you'll be shocked....
03Sleeper 03-29-2007, 07:59 PM what's the warranty that the sonata offers?
poser_pilot6 03-29-2007, 08:10 PM 10yr/100k miles powertrain, 5yr/60k miles bumper to bumper, 7yr/unlimited miles no rust, 5yr/unlimited miles free 24/7 roadside assistance. Thats the warranty for all new Hyundais.
vtecHef 03-29-2007, 08:17 PM That is understandable.I dont mind that people have them, but me personally i could neverown one without the feeling that i was trying to look like some other car ... just seems too generic to me. But you cant beat a good warrenty
03Sleeper 03-29-2007, 10:28 PM OT: Don't you think Saturn's would make the ultimate sleeper project?
Anyways...I really don't mind what car it is...I'm gonna end up dropping a lot of money into it anyways.
joninja 03-31-2007, 05:08 AM when someone comes out with a new and good looking idea, someones gonna bite it, or at least utake certain parts of it. its like that with all products, fashion, graffitti, architecture, its up to u to decide who uses those ideas the best way possible. here is the way i see it toyota comes with alot of ideas and new designs, honda improves upon them, and well hyundia makes them look cheap imo. except for that little hyundia hatchback that was being compared to the honda fit wow that is the best lokking hyundia ive ever seen. i may be the only one on here that feels this way , but that looks alot better than the fit. me likes alot, huuuugh, huugh
joninja 03-31-2007, 05:15 AM off topic but how did i become a senior member all i did was ask a bunch of dumb questions i think i should be demoted out of respect to other senior members[ i dont feel worthy] sorry to be off topic
poser_pilot6 03-31-2007, 09:52 AM Continuing your off topic, it just goes by the number of posts you have. You are worthy!! LoL
03Sleeper 04-04-2007, 08:36 PM Hahahhaah....look at the next vehicle Hyundai is offering. The Camr....I mean Genesis.
http://www.motortrend.com/future/concept_cars/112_0705_hyundai_concept_genesis/
smaglik 04-04-2007, 11:56 PM I thought that too when i saw that article.
03Sleeper 04-05-2007, 02:03 AM But its not...I'm telling you eventually Hyundai will get it right. When you mix parts from BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Chrysler, and Benz, you're bound to either have a car that blows everything out of the water or blows the company to bits.
"....first V8....producing over 300 HP....propels 0-60 in less than 6 seconds...Paddle-shift manumatic control will be standard on the production version." That's pretty sweet.
19Accord97 04-05-2007, 02:30 AM Well I think Dodge is going in a good direction...their cars seem to be diff. then most others. I may be biased to Dodge but oh well. I also agree that the cars are looking to much alike...its to bland.
03Sleeper 04-05-2007, 03:26 AM Auto-makers are somewhat of what Arnold calls: "girly-men". They stick to one design that works and basically play around with it. Increase the width of the taillight here, lower the car .5" there, etc.
On the flip side, no one wants to be stuck in the boat with a revolutinary design that is just too radical or everyone dislikes.
Thus, we're in a stagant pool of design.
*prays that 08 Accord will NOT share anything from the Civic*
I bet if you checked the reycle bin outside of amany of the Hyundai factories, there's probably Toyota emblems from the front of cars as well as Honda's and Jaguar's and the instruction manuals or user manuals from all those cars, as well. But speaking of the Toyota Camry, I'm not a big fan of it. I think it was decent to begin with but now it's just too bulky.
03Sleeper 04-07-2007, 01:29 PM Yeah...I have a feeling the Avalon is going to be phased out...and the Camry will replace it. There's gonna be another small car to slot under the Corolla...so everything moves up. Basically, the Camry will compete with the Maxima...once again.

CivicEX 05-02-2007, 11:43 PM Hyundai make pretty good cars.
vtecHef 05-03-2007, 12:46 AM Depending on ur def. of a good car... i mean they have gotton ALOT better then they used to be ill admit but still dont come close to having the resale value of a Honda... how many hundais do u have out ther with 300k on them still running ?
Cobey 05-03-2007, 03:57 AM With Hyundais getting passed around so much on the low end market, it's kind of hard to say. Similar to how old Hondas, Toyotas, and Subarus were passed around in the late 70s and 80s until people realized what a value they were. I don't think it will take too much longer before the resale value starts coming up.
We've had two of them in the driveway, a 98 Elantra and a 00 Sonata. Both were very reliable cars, great price/feature ratio, and we were very happy with them.
WheelBrokerAng 05-05-2007, 01:06 PM Gee this is just great folks, now you can pick and choose whichever car you like the most and you wont have to worry about not looking like the other persons vehicle...;)

I would say that I will more than likely buy this new model of Hyundai when it comes out...Here's another thing Hyundai gives you when you buy one of their cars..at the end of your final deal after the price has been set..you tell them that you are a Hyundai Owner and they give you an additional $1500.00 off the price for whats called Customer Appreciation , How do I know this? Well WheelBrokerAng also Owns (paid for ) 2 Sonatas already ;)
[sm=smiley32.gif] Thank You for Reading This
RTexasF 05-05-2007, 06:15 PM I must say that the new Santa Fe has us looking pretty closely at it.
WheelBrokerAng 05-06-2007, 09:15 PM And that Tex is a fine looking SUV with all the bells and whistles..I drove a couple of those already also and I too, like them...
WheelBrokerAng ;)
RTexasF 05-06-2007, 09:28 PM My gal's son & daughter in law have one. They drove down here over spring break in it (700 miles on the clock). I looked it over VERY closely, drove it, and I think it's a winner. Long term reliability is up in the air on a brand new model (from ANY maker)I must admit but the track record is good. We are tempted if we can swing the moola.
dvanvught 05-16-2007, 06:41 PM I just got 3 words.......sonata....good...car

I just got 3 words.......sonata....good...car
And so do I have three good words ...I ...Also...Agree;)
dvanvught 05-16-2007, 08:24 PM sorry i meant sonatagoodcar (not a good car) but actually they are starting to make a pretty good car. And I believe they are made in north america so I have no problem buying from them. The only real problem is that their resale value is worse than your average GM, Ford, or mabye even Chrysler product. Everyone copies everyone else in this day and age. How do you think honda got to be so big. They took the big 3's idea's, copied them and made them better so they don't break all the time. So I guess I agree with both sides.....copying sucks but it is inevidable and sometimes it makes for better products.
1stAccord_2ndHonda 05-17-2007, 04:44 PM i've noticed that my 7th gen accord coupe looks similar to the mercury cougar's body lines and the tail lights and trunk designs are similar to 2000 to 2006 mercedes-benz CL class... so i think Honda ran out of ideas too...
dvanvught 05-19-2007, 06:21 PM Exactly my point.....they take something from the big 3's junk pile and make it better.
