Default Carbon Fiber

Does anybody out there know how to effectivly work with carbon fiber? I was thinking about building a vacuum table, and hopefully making styrofoam positives to lay carbon fiber over that the vacuumtable could then suck tight to the styrofoam. I figured I could just pour resin over the outside and let it cure. But basically I don't know what I'm doing with carbon fiber, and I don't want to waste a lot of money. If anybody knows how to actually do this, I would greatly appreciate your knowledge...

A friend of mine works with CF all the time, so I'll give him a ring and see if I can get some answers for you.

I have never done it personally but I've read up fairly extensively on it.... There are a few different ways to do it and it's very similar to working with fiberglass... once you get it down it's not to hard (so I've heard) but learning it and figuring out how to keep the bubbles and seams out is the hard part.... having a mold will help immensly

Yeah, I was just going to like sand and work some big sheets of styrofoam into the shape of the lip or whatever I wanted to make, and then I was going to stretch the carbon fiber over the top of it. My idea was to apply resin to the outside of this carbon-styrofoam concoction, and then put the whole thing on a vacuum table to make sure that the carbon fiber was really molded to the styrofoam, and to get the resin to really coat all the fibers. Then I dunno, I might just leave the styrofoam inside the carbon fiber if it won't show or whatever, and then bolt it onto my car I guess lol. I dunno, but can carbon fiber be worked like this?
