Default "Leather" seats melting?

Hi, I have a 2003 Honda Accord EX, 4 Door, 4 Cyl. I'm the original owner and other than some minor issues I've been quite happy with my Honda.

Recently we moved to Texas and had to fly back to Oregon for a 10 day trip. When we returned we found our car seats had melted while in the airport parking lot. Since I paid extra for the leather seats I'm somewhat concerned about how "leather" can melt and wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this phenomenon. Just the bottom/horizontal sections experienced about 40% melting. The affected areas look and feel like plastic now (and aren't as comfortable to sit on).

Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

Erik

Default Leather seats melting

Hi Erik- I saw your post about your seats melting after you came back from the airport. A similar thing happened to me with the passenger leather seat in my Accord. I'm wondering if Honda did anything to cover this for you, or did they tell you you were on your own for fixing it? As far as I know, if leather is real, it does not melt. And although it doesn't surprise me that the seats aren't made of real leather, it is called "leather" when it is sold to you. And like you said, when you pay extra for leather seats it's a disappointment when something like this happens. If you wouldn't mind, could you let me know what happened with your seats- whether or not Honda replaced them for you? I think you are the only other Accord owner besides me who this has happened to because everyone I have talked to at Honda has told me that they've never heard of something like this happening.

Thanks for your help,
Libby

Question Ive Never !

Ive had leather seats in most of my cars since 1957 and have never had them even come close to melting, how can that be I said to myself..myself came back with an answer like the Honda people said...wev'e never heard of that happening before.

Time to pull the seat out and take it to a lab to see if it's really leather or
maybe something called Pleather..Just call me stumped...

Same thing here...03 honda accord ex leather passenger seat found it melted the other
day where I left a bottle of water laying in the seat. Hard like plastic where the water laid. My guess is because I left the sunroof open on a sunny summer day, maybe the reflection off the water? Very disappointing.

I read your picture and noted it said leather trimmed seating surface.
Does that mean its all leather? I am guessing trimmed means its only partially leather.
