Default Painted my car recently

Hey guys - it been a long time since I have been around.

Anyway my car had the classic clear coat pealing off like many Hondas of my age.

Last year I lightly sanded it and painted it with some flat black paint.

It looks ok sometimes (different angles)

Anyway I wanted to improve it so I bought my own gun and practiced on a few panels, atvs, wood, ect...

I started to get decent so I resanded my car and sprayed it again. This time I mixed 50/50 Gloss Black and Satin Black. it turned out pretty good.

Before...

Well once I got practiced at spraying the paint it is really not much work.

Wet sanding the car down about 2 hours

Taping the car about 2 hours

Spraying the paint about 15 mins

Harbor Freight Spray gun $10

2 quarts of paint $25

1 quart of reducer $10

roll of blue painters tape $6

So about 5 hours and $50

However some people just cannot paint. I have seen horrible paint jobs.

Some people can spray well.

If you have a compressor already pick up the cheap gun and start spraying stuff and see how you do.

It is totally worth it as I transformed my car from ugly to really nice.

Looks good crispin, I definitely like it better now than before. Especially for that cost you really can't complain.

It looks really good. How did you control dust? Did you bake the paint? Clear-coat?

Thank you - it looks really good in person as well.

I sprayed it outside. I taped the car up in my garage, waited till it was calm out, rolled it out and sprayed it and then quickly put it back in the garage.

I used acetone as a reducer which flashes off real fast which makes the paint dry very fast which helps so the bugs and dust that land on the car wont stick in the paint.

I used an enamel paint which is not a base coat clear coat.

A base coat / clear coat really needs to be sprayed in a booth.

If I wanted to I could wet sand the car with 2,000 grit and then use a high speed polisher to get an even deeper shine.

However I just do not think it is worth it to me. I am wanting to wax the car which I have not done yet. I may do that soon. I think it will really bring the shine out.

Wow that's a really great paint job for $50! Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere to do mine. I also don't have a compressor, but either way, it looks good!
