Default 2008 Nav system DVD question

Does the Navigation system in the Accord run off of the DVD or is the DVD box in the trunk just used to load updates? I want to know if the DVD is lost does the Navigation system still work?

Also, is it possible to watch a DVD movie on the screen in anyway?

I have not purchased my new Accord yet but just wanted to ask a few questions.
Thanks

Default Dvd

It runs off the DVD in the trunk. I have an 09 Accord ex-l and it has two dvd's, one for Canada and one for USA.
It matters not as the HOnda navigation system is one tenth as good as my 150 dollar Garmin. I can't go anywhere without getting unknown roads messages.
It amazes me how a corporation like Honda can put a few thousand dollar nav system into a new car, and have it be inferior to a 150 dollar Garmin.

BTW: You can't play a dvd in the player, and the card slot is just for software OS updates by the dealer.

Default Nav Horrible

I would concur. My 150 dollar Garmin is ten times better than the Honda factory nav. I can't go anywhere without that annoying "unverified roads" speech playing, and almost nothing is in the POI's. Makes you think when you have a 35k car with Nav system, and a Garmin stuck to the window. Bad job Honda, real bad.
PS: My son in law has an Acura MDX with nav and he says his sucks to. He also uses a Garmin stuck to the window. Seems to me that whomever they get their maps from are the supplier that needs to change. If the would have used Garmin software and maps, and yes, paid them, they wouldn't have so many customers turning their navs off, or with suction cup marks on their windshields.
