Guys im looking to upgrade my speakers to Alpine Type-S. Im running the Alpine CDE-9852 Reciever. the fronts are 6.5" and the rear decks are 6x9s. for some reason Crutchfield says they wont fit my car. whats the deal with that? does anybody here know if they'll fit? Also, i knw about amping the speakers. that'll get done as well. but im more worries about the fitment right now.
These are the speakers im talking about:

problem i had on daughters '94 on the 6x9's was tweeters protruding above woofer for factory grills. I had to get some that was flush or little below. those Alpine 6x9's look like they should work. Actually, I didnt even see those listed on crutchfield? They usually have tweeter protrusion listed in specs?
Same would go for 6.5's plus also you need to see depth of speakers. You may have to take a factory out and measure it and see if you can go any deeper if need be.
You may want to check out this place woofersect.com. They seem to have better prices and more selection than Crutchfield. I haven't ordered anything yet. I was looking at pair 5.25 Sound stream coaxials for daughters car.

RE: 97 SE Sedan Changing (Upgrading) Speakers
The reason why crutchfield says that the 6x9's wont fit is because many of the accords with the 94-97 body style do in fact come with 6.5's in the rear. But, if you checked it out and you do have 6x9's then they will fit. The only problem i run into when installing 6x9's in the rear is sometimes the tweeters on the speaker are elevated too much from the woofer of the x9 and the grill wont fit back flush with the back dash. Now if you have factory 6.5's in the back, there are two options. 1) you can go to a honda dealer and order the factory 6x9 plates that will take the place of the 6.5 ones....or 2) take the 6.5 plates and cut out the holes for 6x9's. Most of the time when i do this, i actually bottom load the speaker, so the grill fits back flush. But, you said your rear's are 6x9's and the type S speakers fit fine in the rear and your grill will fit back on and will be flush. Your fronts are fine too. The only thing you may have to do is take the grill that comes with the type S's and use them as a spacer if the speaker is too deep.
Hope this helps.....

The factory fronts are 6.5's. The only thing i can think of that crutchfield would say they would not fit is because of the depth of an aftermarket speaker, because the factory one is not deep at all. But, i have some rockford 6.5's in my front doors and the magnet on those is pretty deep. I had to use the grill as a spacer like i mentioned in an earlier post. Just cut out the plastic in the middle of the grill and put it inbetween the speaker and the metal of the door.
