Kicker Sub
i have an L5 kicker 12" that came mounted in a ported enclosure
http://www.nextag.com/Kicker-06VS12L...F72486988CCB3B
as you see its 2ohm instead of 4ohm...well i have a california 1000w amp hooked up to it and it bumps VERY HARD!!..thing is im thinin gabout gettin another L5 or maybe even 2 more but should i go with the L7's? and also should i just upgrade to the 15" because there are notes that my subs cant hit...perfect example the song...."Put It Down-Tpain...try it and ull see wat im saying..i put a 10" back there to see if that was the problem it hit more of the higher notes jus not the lower ones so im thinkin maybe i should jus take everything out and put a 15 back there....would that help or would i have more trouble with the higher notes?
also as far as better quality sounding bass which one would be best kicker 2ohm or 4ohm? which will provide louder and deeper bass?

RE: Kicker Sub
I would forget the L5 and L7, square subs may putout SPL but they are horrible SQ subs. The CVX are L7 drivers but with a round cone. My CVX hits just as hard a L7 just not as deep and sounds 10x better and much louder on the high bass. L5's bass sounds muddy and like crap, but they can hit those real lows. Which even in rap only a hand full of songs have. And your sub is a dual voice coil 2ohm, so it can be wired two ways, either the coils in parallel which would give you a final load of 1ohm, or wire them in series to make the final load 4 ohms. If the amp can take a 1 ohm load it will be louder with the sub wired to 1ohm, but chances are you amp only supports 2ohms so you would have to run the sub in series to get a 4 ohm load. Don't waste you money on another L5 or L7. Honestly if you think an L5 sounds good, you have a lot of subs you should hear before you go out an invest in another sub.
EDIT: After seeing what you bought the sub is already wired in the box. When you hook it up to an amp it's final load will be 2 ohms unless you take the sub out and rewire it. That sub is a 4ohm DVC wired in parallel for that 2 ohm load. Also those kicker boxes aren't built so great, a friend of mine broke two of them with a 15" L5. Broke in the same on two different boxes. While I am a kicker fan, kicker over hypes everything, even their boxes.

RE: Kicker Sub
NO L7 is better Than CVR its proven 2 ohms is better than 4 cause less resistance =more power to sub and L7 's are right below SOLO X which is the best kicker sub...i have an L7 and my friend has 2 CVR's my one sound so much better through any range....for the boxes i dont know go ported

RE: Kicker Sub
Firstly a CVX is not a CVR... Secondly if you knew any serious competitors you would know the solo x is over hyped. It is by far not their best sub. The solo x is purely for db drags, and they're not the most reliable subs in that area. You obviously don't know what your talking about.
Let's get back on track here. Kicker makes a square sub. Why? Well a square has more surface area then a circle. In sub marketing it's all about the size, so how can you make your sub seem bigger? You make it square. It's merely a sales gimmick. (You see a lot of that in the car audio industry, like super tweeter 3-ways)When in reality if you want that increased surface area you should make a larger circle cone. A square cone is not a rigid as a circle cone, more mass is needed to make it rigid, hence the reason they are muddy sounding. I'm pretty baked right now and can't explain things very well, but it's common sense. A square cone is inferior to a circular cone, it's only advantage is increased surface area. For what? To bring the range down? When you can increase the surface area by getting a larger sub. There are 18"s with much much better SQ than a 12" L7.
EDIT: Lol I love your response on the impedance, looks like my explanation of how to wire a DVC confused you to the point you think I said a a final load of 4ohms is better than a 2 ohm. Well in relaitly most amps only support 2ohms a 4 ohm DVC sub is better in that senario than a 2ohm DVC. I bet you don't know why, and I won't answer agian becuase I explained it above. You can tell me why maybe you can read.

RE: Kicker Sub
Lol No sir, the L7 is in fact a DVC. I don't understand how you could think otherwise...
EDIT: I see you have a L5, well it has a DVC too. Only the comps have a SVC. I'm pretty sure the L5 and CVR share drivers, I know for a fact the CVX and the L7 share drivers. Anything else I can correct tonight?

RE: Kicker Sub
Haha my explanations mean nothing!? Well I guess your right if your incapable of understanding. Your sub is a dual voice coil, period. I'm not wrong, unlike you I have been around and actually know what I'm talking about. Now if you would take the sub out of the box you will see its DVC. You don't run two sets of wires to a DVC, or have two ports on the box. You wire the coils either in parallel or series, this is basic car audio. I was able to comprehend this stoned out of mind at the age of 14. Now listen to me carefully. You don't know what your talking about, L7s are not good subs. They have good drivers, but the cone is badly designed. Circular cones have more rigidity then a square. I'm no engineer but its common sense. An arch is strong than a square, each corner takes extra stress. Where in a cone or arch the stress is distributed evenly. So they have to add mass to the square cone to make it as rigid as a circular cone. A lot of things change when you add this extra mass. The resonance freq of the cone changes and now there is even more mass to move back and forth making it harder to reproduce higher notes. Either you two are still in high school, or you never learned anything there. So please save yourselves the embarrassment and don't tell me I'm wrong again. If I was unsure I would be sure to let you know, but I am positive. I'm not the only one who thinks so. Ever single person who actually knows about quality setups will tell you L7s especially L5s don't sound good. Can they pump out those DBs at 50hz? They sure can, but anything about 70hz or so sounds like ***. And unlike you I have heard many L7s not so many L5s, honestly only an idiot buys a L5. They think bigger is better. When an 8" JL W7 would blow it and a L7 away in the higher range. There is obviously no point in arguing with either of you, your the most ignorant two I've come across. Don't ask for help if you won't listen to my answers because you want to be right. And for the other guy don't come on here telling people what you think, because all the information you have is what you THINK. So please go away or actually listen to me. I get no rise out of feeling superior to you online. I was merely trying to help, albeit I was frustrated but my main motivation was to clear up your misconceptions. But obviously your incapable of understanding me so all I have done is waste my time. Anyone else who knows ANYTHING about sound will tell you the same thing. So do you honesty think I'm wrong because you can't understand basic concepts that are very important to sound quality? So if the next thing out of your keyboards isn't something productive, get out of here.
