The JL W7 is by far in my opinion the best SQ sub, I don't know the best SPL sub. SPL is sound pressure level, it basically means how loud it will get, and the lowest notes are the loudest. SQ is sound quality, and the reproduction of higher bass notes directly affects overall sound quality. So SQ and SPL don't refer necessarily to any specific frequency range. You can find all the information on your sub at kicker.com, you can even download the manual for your year. If you bought the exact sub you linked to in the original post it's an 06. I don't believe the driver changed from 06 to 08, so your sub is rated for 600w RMS.

EDIT: But of course before you to come to any conclusion, you should wait for clay to come and validate anything I said, as I'm known to talk out of my a**.

As for why 10"s hit the highs better there's a few reasons. Mainly it's about mass, the added mass from a larger cone makes the cone move slower. The cone has to move faster and faster to hit those higher notes. Hence the reason L7s sound muddy, square cones are not as strong as circular cones. So mass is added to make it stronger. Now there are 15"s and even 18"s with great SQ, I haven't heard an 18" with great SQ but they exist. I had an argument maybe a year ago with a member here about 18"s having good SQ, I didn't believe him at first but he finally made his point. But the 15" I heard (can not remember the name for the life of me) had GREAT SQ and great SPL. It was in a good sized sealed, 2.5 maybe 3 cubes and if I remember correctly 1500w JL amp.

Lol yes a ZX750.1 will have more power than that 2000w amp of yours. Still won't be seeing 138dbs though.... Also audio shop guys are extremely biased, and even here in Miami I have never met someone at a shop that I felt really knew the ins and outs. They are exactly the people that push the Ls, they are great to sell. All you have to say is a square is bigger, hell look how they have you so convinced! If you heard a W7 of any size you would think differently. Kicker is here to make money, and boy are they doing it with the Ls.

I'm sorry but like you said experience over theory(which you don't even have, just your word which ain't worth much). A single L7 with a crap of an amp will not hit 138db, end of story. To hit those numbers you need serious, clean power. Which your amp does not have. So look, I know your lying, the more you deny it just makes it even sadder. There is no doubt in my mind that you didn't hit 138dbs, and that you have never heard 138bds, b/c if you have you would have chosen another number to make up. 140db is IMPOSSIBLE with your crappy amp.

Now accord master, what do you mean by only one port on the box? Are you talking about only one air port? Or are you calling the speaker terminals on the box a port? You will only see one input terminal (port) even on a dual voice coil (DVC). Wiring your coils in parallel or series, is what allows you to only run one set of wires to the sub. But understand on the back of the sub there are four input terminals. If you were to pull the sub out you would see exactly what I'm talking about. Since the final load you have now is 2 ohms, that is a 4 ohm DVC sub wired in parallel, which is your best option if your amp supports 2ohms, which all mono blocks do. When looking for an amp get a D class (Digital) amp, not a 2ch A/B switching class like my buddy clay has. A/B class are much less efficient, produce more heat and don't have as much power. But clay still thinks it's remotely possible to hit 138dbs with that thing. [sm=nono.gif]

Don't get a 750.1 to run two subs off of. If you want to double the subs, you have to double the power. Two say L5s on a 750.1 won't be as loud as one L5 on a 750.1, this goes for all subs and amps. Two subs on half the power isn't as loud as one sub on full power. Why I do I have a feeling clay is going to say differently. We aren't working with engines, there are many replacements for displacement.
