No the trunk doesn't really affect the SQ so bad. But yes it does muffle the sound but only slightly, bass travels through mass without too much effort. That's why at the club you can hear the bass in the bathroom but not the highs. Honestly I haven't heard too many 15"s that really impressed me. There was that one I heard years ago with great SQ but I can not remember the name. I have not heard the 15" CVX, but others have said it has good SQ. But when I was younger all I cared about was being the loudest. It was when I heard a 10" W7 that I realzied what a sub can sound like. After that all the subs my freinds had sounded muddy and horrible to me. I didn't have the money to replace my CVRs so I saved up some money while I did my research. I did my speakers before doing my subs, and I was so satisfied the day I put in my CVX.

so when you say SQ you are referring to???....hitting on beat? orrrr like having little to no crackling or popping or any noises created from the cone moving?? or do you just mean how clear you hear the voices and the other sounds??

SQ has to do with a few things. Mainly the high frequency reproduction, and how it sounds with fast transitions of bass. I can't really explain it without you hearing it. An expert may be able too, but I'm by far no expert.

ok do me a favor...dont mean to make u do something..but if u could click on these links and tell me if these songs have to do with SQ or SPL.....u might have to listen to about 1:30 of it...im sure u dont wanna hear em...but these are the songs i normally listen to...so the question in lamens terms is basically which would benefit me more than the other SQ or SPL when listenin to songs such as these...

No drama here either. When you pull ideas out of thin air and claim it to be a fact, I consider it a lie. When you present information, but leave out a crucial piece in an effort to mislead, I consider it a lie. When you continuously spout off posts to disrupt this forum it bothers me and if this is all that you are here for, you will be removed. I haven't said much because I figured that after a few posts that this issue would go away; that has not occurred. Later on today I will clean up this thread and all off topic comments will be removed. Consider yourself warned.

I don't have a sub hooked up to my PC, just some nice 3 ways. SPL and SQ aren't two different types of bass, not really. SPL is sound pressure level, which means how loud the sub will go. A sub designed for SPL use usually doesn't have great sound quality. Meaning an L7 will putout more SPL then a same size and same power W7. But the W7 sounds so much better throughout the range, and is still very loud. You have to hear different subs for this to make sense to you. I'm sure someone out there can put it in better words, but I have never been a good teacher. When your into DB competition you don't care for SQ and only want a tough SPL sub, which the L7 isn't very tough. I've seen more blown L7s than any sub online. People blow the cone right off the surround, or destroy the spiders and the sub just bottoms out. The square cone also adds a bit of resistance and extra stress to the corners on the surround. A square cone is bad in pretty much every way, the only advantage a square sub brings to the table is the small increase in surface area. And increasing the surface area on a circular sub is still 10X better then going to a square. So can an L7 beat a W7 in a DB drag, you bet. Does an L7 sound like crap, oh yeah! I hope this helps you understand a bit more between the difference between an SPL sub and a SQ sub. SPL= muddy loudness , SQ= Greatness.

EDIT: Also go back through this thread and read all my posts again, now that you have a better understanding my other post may make more sense to you now.

And thank you falkore, I'm usually able to ignore these types of kids, but he really got me going. There is nothing more frustrating then someone telling your wrong, when they aren't capable of realizing they couldn't be any further from right.

Lmao falkore. My dad had me cutting fiberglass with a jigsaw when I was 13. It's really not too difficult, it doesn't have to look good lol.

EDIT: Oh and I think it's actually harder, the corners arn't 90 degrees, the corners have to be rounded. Not sure never installed an L7, but it seems it would be that way.
