Default New amp situation

I just bought a new 12" type r and hifonics 1600 w amp for my 91 accord. since it has the power antenna I asked my friend who has wired a couple subs if I could just split the remote wire, but he suggested I split the yellow power wire and use a switch on it. I've never done amps before (only speakers) and was wondering if anyone had any input. Thanks,

Jake

If you have and aftermarket headunit, the blue wire on the aftermarket deck is to power the antenna and the blue/white is amp turn on. If the aftermarket headunit has only one typically blue/white then you can use what wire to power both the power antenna and the amp. The only thing is your antenna will be up even when listening to a CD.

Whoever told you to use the yellow wire was either messing with you, or just likes to hear themselves talk. If you were to use the yellow wire, the antenna would never go down. Even with the key out of the ignition. Just follow My03accord's instructions and you will be set.

I would use both yellow and blue/white with a relay. you don't want to overload that blue/white wire. use a standard BOSCH relay, coil powered by the blue/white, yellow feeding the contact, then you can load it up however you want with amps, fans, etc. be sure to fuse the yellow (constant) wire at the tap to protect it. size the fuse for the load or wire, whichever is less.

You would probably have better luck just installing a new head unit and running a higher quality aftermarket wire to your speakers, and getting a amp for them if you want, it would sound a lot better than using the stock equipment.

keephopealive, i dont plan i adding anything else to my system other than this. ill sell my car before that happens. what would be the downfall to splitting the yellow wire? would the head unit output less watts? and what happens if the blue/white wire gets overloaded? it doesnt really have to carry much current does it?

...and yea im a seventeen year old kid who doesnt really know what hes doing, i ask a lot of dumb questions haha.

jeajespetbaws, my head unit and speakers are all already aftermarket. and i dont really want to hassle with using an amp to help power them. i think they sound pretty good right now.
