RE: Will 6x9" fit?
Unfortunatly you cant. 6x9's were barley in existence back then. Go to www.jbl.com to find what fits our rear deck. Im not sure but I think they are either 5 1/4 or 6 1/2. Go to jbl to double check.

I just thought the 6 x 9 would produce a better sound. Can 6.5" produce the same sound? As in quality.

Id go with a single high quality 10". Like MB Quart or Dayton Loudspeakers

Dont let the price and looks fool you, Ive had a 12 and it was one of the best sounding sub woofers Ive listened to. Its dirt cheap there because they make them. If it were to be on a retail market it would go for $350 at the least.

A 6.5" of equal quality will produce better sound. 6x9's can play deeper (bass) because it is bigger, but the words will distort more and at lower levels than a 6.5". I've witnessed this myself. It sounds good when your riding up front, but it sounds like trash in the rear. If you notice serious sound quality competition vehicles don't have 6x9s. They run all component 5.25" or 6.5". More linear sound. Upgrade the 6.5"s and add one sub, you'll love it.
