Smoked tail lights

So I am going work with some friends on smoking my tail lights. Almost everyone who smokes their tail lights goes waaaay to dark almost black, but for me, I want to have them smoked. So this video is the exactly what. Want my tail lights to look like.

So he uses an adhesive promoter, then mixes inner coat clear with black.

Finnaly my question, what does he use and what should I use... And If i can not find out anything I will end up using nightshade or VHT, DESPITE ME NEVER WANTING TO USE VHT!

What do these words mean?
I checked my Websters dictionary and could not find them.

I will agree that the VHT kinda sucks as it tends to flake off after a while.
