Nothing wrong with that. It's a good over the counter product.

 

Applying with terry cloth towel, removing with terry cloth bonnet...

 

I can't quite picture what's going on here but try this: Pick an area where you saw the "blotchyness" and rub the WP into that area until the product almost disappears. Then wipe down using a microfiber towel instead of the buffer and a terry bonnet. I have to do my hood that way in small sections (2' X 2') to prevent a smeary look. I suspect the hood was repainted at the factory because the rest of the car is just wipe on & wipe off like the dozens of others I've used Wet Paint on.
