Default Just replaced ball joint and upper control arm

I had some play in my upper ball joint on my Accord 2007 SE 4CYL at 243k miles and I just replaced the upper control arm and ball joint. I wrote up a little tutorial of what I did with pictures of each step and it is available at the following link:

[Edit: link removed, instead see PDF file attached below]

I wanted to upload the tutorial to this forum but it is a 2MB PDF and it exceeded the upload size limits [Edit: Attachment PDF size is now 5MB!]

Anyway, if any of you are considering doing the same job, perhaps it might be of some use to you.

By the way, I bought this car new and over 243k miles this is only the second repair I have had to make (the first was a new water pump at ~210k) aside from the usual maintenance items (brakes, oil changes).

I hope you've done a timing belt replacement. Although technically not a repair, it is an important item. You should have replaced twice at this mileage.

good luck

It is a timing chain not a belt in the 2007 4CYL and I don't think requires any scheduled maintenance.

I did forget one thing in addition to the water pump at 210k I put new heat shields on the catalytic converter at about 230k (they were rattling). Aside from that it has just been maintenance items (oil, atf fluid, plugs, brakes). Haven't ever had the check engine light come on in 243k miles...

Sorry, I misread. I had a 2007 Accord and loved it. Unfortunately, my daughter totaled vehicle.

good luck

I don't have a 2007,but thank you for the tutorial!

I wanted to ask,is there NO way to get the control arm off if you don't remove the strut?

It looks tight, but was not sure if it was in the way of removing the other bolts to get it off.

On my 96 Accord,I replaced the upper control arm assembly in just a few minutes.I know they keep changing the front end geometry and designs over the years, but I didnt know they did it that much.

Thanks again for the info.

I think you could get an open end wrench in there and get the bolts out without removing the strut. Also, these bolts were not super tight and seemed to come out quite easily for me (maybe they get less corroded being higher up in the wheel well). However, I think there is no way you could get a ratchet in there w/o moving the strut. It would certainly make it much quicker if you did it that way!

Thanks for the comment!
John
