Service Advisor
Interview the customer to get as much information as
possible, and write it on the repair order. Information
such as where and when the problem occurs is vital to

Service Technician
1. Carefully remove the lens from the ceiling light.
2. Attach a 4-foot or longer jumper wire to the left
(driver’s) side terminal for the ceiling light bulb.

3. With an assistant, test-drive the vehicle as
described on the repair order to reproduce the
customer’s complaint. When you hear the
humming, have your assistant ground the loose
end of the jumper wire to the grounding sleeve of
the power outlet. Do not allow the jumper wire to
touch the bottom of the socket.
• If the noise goes away with the jumper wire
grounded, go to
REPAIR PROCEDURE.
• If the noise does not go away with the jumper
wire grounded, this service bulletin does not
apply. Refer to the service manual for additional
diagnostic information.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Replace the ANC unit:

You most likely have a Bad Radio Signal Generator. Your hybrid runs on 3 of the 6 cylinders at highway speeds with light throttle, You can tell by the green light on your dash. This creates the whining noise which you have described. The radio has signal generator which sends out a noise which cancels out the vibration noise.

I had mine replaced a few years ago on my 05 Accord Hybrid.

The above post already addressed this over two years ago, it is more appropriately called Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).
