I think both are amazingly tough cars, I have found that the older honda vehicles were more reliable and more refined. Especially the seats and internal hardware. The toyotas engines may be slightly more refined but the hondas engines are tougher. Look for a youtube video called honda civic death. A honda civic engine is totally beat on and they pour water, dirt and other stuff into the engine and the thing just wont die.

 

i agree mk1 one accord most reliable car i have ever had,
drove my accord back from norfolk to london to my surprise it started overheating by the time i reached cambridge,

put the heating on full bar and made it all the way home ,
next morning discovered she just needed a top up of water and was running great again,

i was a boy racer at time found the held the bends really well nippy out of corners, i did nothing but change pads during my 4 years of neglecting careless fun,

other cars i,ve tryed have not stood up to my abuse as the accord
had,

if wer,nt for the rust developing i would not be surprised it still be running today,

had the ex 1980 hatchback very advanced in its day with the 4 door having p/s e/w e/roof e/ariel with solid chrome nobes, comfortable half leather seats ,

have recently been fortunate in purchasing an old mk1 accord as got fed up with ecus computers etc,

i shall be giving her the respect and care she deserves now
i found it gives you that smile back , and feel reasured with the reliabilty
that it gives you that no other car can ,
