Default buying with 162,000 miles

Would it be a bad idea to buy a 1998 Honda Accord Ex V6, automatic. With 162,000 miles to travel back and forth to school in, and occasional vacation trips? How bad is the upkeep on these?

if it was any other honda besides the 1998-2002 accord, I would say YES but in this case unless they are practically giving you the car, I would not buy it.

Known serious issues

1. TRANSMISSION
2. ALTERNATOR

IF that is the original transmission, it'll die soon. It is extremely rare that these transmissions last 200K let alone 150K

do the maintenance if you are getting the car. if you take care of the transmission it will be fine. depends on driving habits as well.

98-02 have the best body styles, the 98-00 look better with their back lights.

Manual trans is very well built. It's just the auto tragic that kills you- even the I4 cars have problems with their autos........

Yeah my brother brought a v6 1998 4door and the tranny messy up and the alternator broke twice. But the 4 cyclinder wherer very good in my opinion i got a 2000 coupe 4-cyclinder and it works great never had problem with tranny. But engine wise honda are supposed to last very long if you take care of them. My dad has a 1991 honda accord lx manual and it has 300k miles and it runs very well. Just make sure ytou change oil.
