I have a 99 Accord 4 cyl Lx model with an automatic transmission and the check engine light just come on and the engine is shaking a bit. How can I check the code? Do I really need an odbII scanner or is there a wire i can jump?

The socket where you plug in the scanner is above the driver's left knee. Near thekick panel, pointing straight down towards the floor. You'll probably get an instruction booklet for what buttons to press on the scanner itself.
You should note the actual code numbers, because the description textcan be misleading. Come back & post with the actual numbers. Then we can help point you towards what things to check after we get the error numbers.

If you have any trouble finding the port based on JimBlake's instuctions, try using the "search" function on this site. Or check the DIY section. There is a lot of helpful information in there that I don't feel like a lot of people take advantage of

That's not the first time I've heard about this. Some places (Calif??) the AutoZone-type places are afraid of liability & they're not allowed toactually touch your car. Sometimes they'll stand right there& point out whereYOU can plug in the cable.
