ignition switch
Sup everybody, i'm new at accord forum. I have a question about my ignition switch, my car would shut off everytime I let go of the key. I believe that it's the ignition switch but not really sure wich part. it could be the cylinder or the electric part. and when i was trying to take it out the two bolt are "protected" as honda said. Is there anyway of removing the bolts without any requirment for a power tool? I also belive that the electric part can be remove without removing the entire cylinder. But if someone could help me so I can get started as soon as possible. thanks a lot everybody.

RE: ignition switch
first of all ( welcome to the forum)
Ok now
before you starting take off the ingition switch spending big bucks! -- heres what you need
ask the dealership (dealership item anyway) part called "Ignition Switch electrical" they know what it is it costs about 50$ well at the time i did it - may be different ( part looks like a plastic box around 2x2x1 inches with copper wide connectors coming out)
if you have at least some skill and dexterity (and patience) you can do it yourself although might use help of a friend.
now take off the steering colomn look at the back the original piece is green but replacement is different (blue i dont recall) in color so try to look at the same part it's kinda from the bottom left.
now theres a trick to it - in order to put the electrical part in ( without taking everything apart) you have to take (the switch )it apart in 2 halves. Be careful take your time pry it with thin screwdriver and it slides right apart - copper connectors slide right in so be careful not to bend or break them.
then it's connected with small bolts i think like 5 or 4 mm i dont remember did it long time ago - although theres 1 bolt that is very hard to take out (that's where your dexterity has to come in..) use tiny open wrench to take that bolt and take the electrical part out (splitting it on halves ) <-- now it's adviced to take the old part apart first ( you can not be afraid to break it as it's broken anyway) and you practice first on taking the old part.
Ok now the new part (halfs come from both sides and go right in) and put the easy bolts first.
Enjoy! (i just saved you around $400 )
P.S. ask me any questions i can guide you - although apologize for long response you can email me or Icq me if you like #12492592 mafiosy@hotmail.com

RE: ignition switch
I have a similar problem with my ignition switch/lock. The info you gave to the other guy was cool , but I have to replace the whole GIZMO. Do you know how to remove those special blots with-out any power tools?(like the other guy too) I basically know what to do but how is another question. ANY WORDS OF INFORMATION would be appreciated.

RE: ignition switch
To remove the "tamper-proof" Honda breakaway screws, I was able to remove them using a small screwdriver as a chisel, tapping with a hammer at the edges until loosened, then just raking the screwdriver blade against the side and unscrewing them (a LOT of threads)
Pick up some new ones from honda when replacing, or better , some hex headed screws as it is difficult to fit a blade in there.

"Do you know how to remove those special blots with-out any power tools?"
I was tempted to be a real smart-a** and say with a "blotter".
Use a small chisel or screwdriver as a drift, tapping (hammer)on the bolt base to loosen, then once you can take some of the pressure off the assembly, and the threads you should be able to coax the bolt by scraping the edge with a screwdriver blade or with your finger.
Whoops...one head talking to the other;-) I thought I had messed up as first post didn't display. Chalk up to newbie sloth.
