Default Lower Engine Rebuild Kit - 1986 Accord

Hi Gang,

I’m in the process of rebuilding my 1986 Accord 2.0 and the top half is all done.

The only thing I want to do to the bottom half is put a set of new rings, crankshaft main bearings, rod main bearings, seals and associated gaskets in. (of course I'll have the crankshaft journals resurfaced)

I’m not looking to replace the pistons, water pump, oil pump, crankshaft, or timing belt as the timing belt is brand new and I don’t need all the other parts I just mentioned.

All the engine rebuild kits I see advertised include some of the parts I listed that I don’t want or need.

Having said that, do any you know who will sell me a "customized" or "piece-meal" lower block rebuild kit with just the parts I need for a reasonable price?

I’ve scoured the internet and yes, I can buy all the separate parts on eBay or other sites, but I’d really like to just buy everything I need in one shot from one source.

Thanks gang……..

I don't know, but I changed the title to attract the attention of a few people who like the older ones...

Ok Jim………………….?????????

Not quite sure which post you were responding too but I was asking about engine rebuild kits.

Anyway, for all those that may have the same inquiry as me, I found a website called: Clegg, and they have everything you need, plus they’ll customize your order needs.

I think Jim was trying to get my attention....I like the older 3rd gen Accords

Me peronally, I've yet to see an oil pump on one of these go bad. There are two o-rings that seal the pump and then the pump to the block....I would replace those and call it good but that is me.

What options does yours have....2dr, 3dr, 4dr.....LX, DX, LXi.....auto or manual trans? How many miles.

Good luck with the rebuild.

Yeah, I know Poorman has a lot more experience than me when it comes to Accords of those years. I just added "1986 Accord" to the thread title to make it more specific.

Poorman212:

It’s a 1986 2dr hatchback, and to be honest I don’t know if it’s a DX or LX (there’s no emblems on the back other than “Honda”

She’s an automatic if that helps.

“Clegg Engines” has everything I need for the lower end and I wasn’t planning on replacing anything other than the internals.

You probably don’t remember me but I’m the guy who posted "carburetor problems" in here a few months ago.

Well it turns out it wasn’t the carburetor; it was a compression problem. I bought a refurbished head for the car and put in a new timing belt & gaskets while I was at it and even though all of that went smooth, the low compression in cylinders 2 & 3 persisted.

We put it on a special machine that finds exactly where the low compression is coming from and low & behold “it’s the rings”

So now the plan is to just pull the motor out completely – take the head back off (unfortunately) and concentrate on the rings and other ancillary associated parts that have to be replaced whenever you rip the block apart.

The crank will have to be sent out so the journals can be polished, the seals at both ends of the crank, the crank main journal bearings, the rod bearings, of course new rings, new thrust washers, and new gaskets will all be needed.

Once she’s back together the compression issue should vanish,, and I swear to God if it’s still there I’m going to drive the car off the Grand Canyon cliff myself and jump out before she goes over………………………..
