Default most likely buying a 94 EX 4dr 5sp

I just looked at a 4 door 94 EX 5sp black. It has 183K miles on it. It needs a little work-New timing belt/water pump, cv joint, front and rear brakes, and clutch is questionable. im getting the car for 1800 bucks, so i figure if i put 1200 into it, i have a great 3000 dollar car. Its a 1 owner and the body is in great shape for the year.

What are your opinions?

Eric

I've a 94 EX 2dr 5sp and paid $3300.00 for it which is a great deal so I would take out a loan for $3000.00 and just fix it, the car is easily worth it if the body is in great shape....

yea the body has one really minor dent, no rust, but the mechanical repairs worry me.

I estimate it needs about 1000-1500 in repairs.

IF you do the work yourself it'd be easy to repair for less $1000.00. If you are going to have a shop do it then ask them if they will do a buyers inspection for you and give you an estimate on the repairs. Then ask if they will discount or give you the inspection for free if you agree to let them do all the work

I live in an apartment so fixing it myself maybe somewhat of a problem. I will hunt around here for a reputable place that repairs hondas.

it sounds like a good deal, and thats maintence required on cars that are that old and have that many miles. and by brakes do you mean brake bads, or rotors or what, cause brake pads are a cheap easy fix, but rotors can get expensive. I would have them do a oil change while your at just so you know its been done. but anywho, it sounds like after that work you will have a great reliable car, then perhaps you can put some aftermarket parts on it.

I bought the car today-the thing hadnt been washed in months it looked like, maybe even years. I spent 2 hours polishing and waxing it-damn, it looks like a whole new car. There are quite a few scraches and a few door dings, but overall, i would say its not bad for the money. now for the mechanical:

The trans shifts perfect. The clutch probably needs a new pressure plate, but it engages just fine. The suspension is not so hot as well as the brakes. It also needs a timing belt.

the car doenst leak anything-Im going to have a flush and fill of all the fluids sometime next week.

Im going to have a fun little project car on my hands!

I changed all the fluids on the 94-it runs fantastic! What a change! I did the radiator flush and fill, fuel system cleaning, new fuel filter and an oil change.

I'd bet that thing runs like a champ and you haven't done much work to it at all....Nice find, just look into finding a good mechanic for the timing belt now and you're pretty much worry free...
