Default Oil Change?

So I got my car in december with 47,000 miles on it. About a 1 month in a half ago, I took the car for the 50,000 miles check up which consisted a of an oil change. I was driving the other day and Isaw the service sticker on the top of the windsheild and it said that my next schedule check-up is 5 months or 5,000 miles. I always thought you got an oil change change every 3 months or 3,000 miles. Could this 5 months 5,000 miles be a misprint or is that how often honda's are suppose to get their ould change?

If they used synthetic oil that is why they say 5,000 miles. If you look in your owner's manual it probably says every 7,500 miles. The 3,000 mile interval is a little overkill in my opinion. I think it is a way for oil change places to make more money. I normallychange my oil every 5k miles or 4 months. I use valvoline maxlife 10w30 syn blend.
The interval is really owner preference IMO. Some feel safer changing it every 3k, and some feel 5k is fine.

My 2003 Accord 4-cyl owner's manual says the oil change intervals are 10,000 miles. Not that I actually go that long...

Dang! I knew my 2000's manual said 7,500, so I just figured the newer ones were at least that long. 10k is a long time!

Ugh, I would not trust going over 5k for an oil change just because of oil being used up over time. I tried that Mobil1 15k miles stuff once and about 7,500 miles through I found myself about a quart low on oil.

5K is the "new" standard and conventional oil will easily go that distance. Make it a habit to check the oil level on a regular basis and add if necessary.

YeahI thought 5k was the new standard for conventional oil,but I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't say anything. Didn't 5k used to be the recommended interval a long time ago? Or am I dreaming that up?

Oil and engines are both much better than they were 20 years ago when that 3000 mile recommendation was normal.

Still, 10k is a long time, so I go about 7k on the Hondas. Someday I'll probably get the oil analyzed to see whether I can go longer. Used oil has to go SOMEWHERE, & I'm not excited about wasting it or ruining the planet.
