Default souping up my accord, what to do first..

I have a 92 DX accord with a warped head gasket, so its not running right now, im in the process of fixing it myself and when it is in sound working order i want to beef up the HP and performance of the car. After fixing it i'll have around $1000 left, what would be the best way to get as much performance gain with that much money?

do you mean blown head gasket and warped head?

couple diff. ways you can spend that 1000bucks. what are your power goals?

ah, no its just a blown head gasket, it blew because the water pump gave out. And i was wanting to work up to around 400 horses.

400hp isn’t going to happen with 1000bucks...more like 3-4000bucks for forced induction.

With your $1000 you MIGHT break 170ish with the right parts. A h23 head swap Bisimoto f22a header cams regrind good exhaust and intake...but that’s gonna be a little over a grand and you would even break 200hp.

Now if you want to spend another grand you can get yourself a h22 swap. runs about 2k plus your install if you can’t do it yourself. that will get you 180/190-ish hp (rated 200 to the *CRANK*) then add some bolt ons and you can get little over 200hp out of that set up.

OR you can go turbo. Low budget build you can make 300hp for around 2-3grand. That’s on stock internals with EMS and a full turbo kit. Now if you want more you will need to work the engine. NOw the f22a engines are the BEST F series engines (unless you count the f20 and the s2k f20 and f22)
They are very boost friendly and make good power and tq. So you might want to save up a little more to rear your power goal.
G/L!!

oh no man i know im not gonna get 400hp out of $1000 haha. i just meant thats what i'd like to get my car up to eventually, right now though i only have that much money and was wondering what should be the first parts i should get.

now since im taking apart, fixing up and putting back together the engine i already got i'd like to keep it if i can. So should i go with the first suggestion u said? I'd heard from some people that those little 4cyl engines can definitely be cranked up to have 400hp with the right parts.

What I would personally do...I would swap to a h23 head. Get a bisimoto f22a header (h23 and f22a have same head ports) get the cams regrind. Mod the intake manifold (explain later if your interested) and get higher compression pistons. That will cost you little more 1000bucks but you will have some really nice n/a power.

naturally aspirated = n/a or all motor"
When I say mod the intake manifold I mean you open up the ports inside the runners and plenum from 8 ports to 4 ports and you delete the "butterflies"

That’s what the inside looks like stock. Now you will want to make thos 8 holes into 4 holes. There is also a butterfly plate that matches to the holes but the round holes have plates that open and close depending on how hard you press the gas pedal. By doing this you will lose a little bit of your low end but gain nicely in the high end of your power band.

For the cams you take them out of your head and send them to bisimoto delta or the cam regrind of choice and they regrind the cams to diff. spec for more lift duration and over lap and such. The cams will give you added power and possibly a longer RPM range depending on what type of grinding you go with. Also depending on what grind you go with you might need to upgrade your valve train...but with some regrind that aren’t all that aggressive you don’t have to do a valve train job. You have to ask the regrind who is doing your cams on what they recommend.

hmm ok, how do i make it into 4 holes? just weld a metal plate on it and take off the butterfly plate?
ok i understand about the cams now.
