Default thermostat housing outlet question

how much of a pain in the BUTT is it going to be to remove the part that the thermostat housing outlet bolts into, what is that part, and what is the procedure? mine has been damaged (don't ask) and needs to be replaced.
edit: the part the housing bolts into has had the bolt holes stripped by a crazy-dumbutt friend of mine who agreed to change my thermostat. any other ideas besides replacing that part? i've already tried "stripped thread repair" and it failed.

You can buy yourself a set of extractor bits and a small drill bit and borrow someones drill that must have a reverse drill function on it..

Drill into the bad bolts with the small drill bit and the go into the bolt with one of the extractor bits and the put it into a slow reverse extract and it should come out for you..
