Default the weirdest thing happened

This is the first time this happened to my car. It was running fine, and I stopped to get a drink. When I came back and tried to start my car, it wouldn't start. I was like what the hell? When I clicked the ignition twice, when the dashboard lights come on, my check engine light wasn't even coming on which was weird. As if there was no check engine light. So I popped my hood and played around with my plugs. I tried to make sure they were tight and all. Still no luck. I repeatedly tried playing with the plugs. Then I tried to start it again, and I noticed that my check engine light finally came on, then my car started. I guess my plugs or my wires are dying or something? Or maybe they're just getting loose. I ordered a new set of NGK plugs and wires set, should this solve my problem?

im pretty sure there isnt a CEL code for bad spark plugs. have the code checked for free by auto zone and go from there.

Well actually, the CEL light has been on for a while because of my aftermarket cat. I'm finally going to do the spark plug defouler trick to get rid of it today, but the problem happened again today, and my CEL light went away for some reason. I'm sure it'll come back, but I'll do the spark plug defouler thing anyway. I'll see what's going on and let you guys know.

Okay just a quick question about changing spark plugs. In this article, http://www.ehow.com/how_110_replace-spark-plugs.html it states that I have to "gap" the spark plugs using some coin or whatever that is in the video. What is this gapping procedure and why do I need to do it? I don't really understand it either and how exactly to do it.

If you're using standard plugs it's a good idea to check the gap. You can buy a gap guage from a parts store for like $0.99 and the auto store should be able to tell you what they need to be at.

it depends on the amount of gas on the engine...if the gap is larger, then the spark is stronger, (until a certain point of course). i believe that the stock gap is ok... no need to touch it. but u can push it to 3 or 4mm... not sure so don't go for that measurement... : P

Well, if im wrong plz correct me anyone!
