Question 02 Accord. 4k rev limit and engine dies when not on the throttle

Hey guys, I need some serious advice and I'm hoping someone can help. I have a 2002 Accord ex SOHC VTEC F32A1 5-Speed. It started with my car stalling out when in neutral. i'd be going 50 or so, push the clutch in and brake, and the RPM's drop to zero and i loose all power. When i release the clutch and the gear engages, the engine cranks back up. i stopped and turned it on/off a couple times and it seemed to be holding the idle around a grand where it should be. maybe 10 miles down the road I'm trying to accelerate to highway speeds and the engine essentially redlines at 4,000 RPM. If i up shift, i can keep accelerating but no more than 4k. The check engine light came on as soon as i hit the 4k redline, and the code was P1249 and when i looked that up it said "wastegate control valve performance". I'm clueless at this point and could use some good tips.

no code 1249, and no wastegate control valve for your vehicle...more than likely it's DTC P1259: A problem in the VTEC Oil Pressure Switch circuit or VTEC Solenoid Valve circuit.

check, your oil for low or dirty condition. if i had to guess right off hand, you have a bad VTEC oil pressure switch, or solenoid valve....but that's just a guess

Thanks!! i'll try replacing the oil pressure switch tonight. would that cause both the rpm limit of 4k AND the intermittent stalling?
also after revving the rpms up and letting them drop back down, they drop to a very low rpm (less than 300) and you can feel the motor shaking as if it's about to stall. it will only recover to about 500 rpm for idle. could i potentially have another problem that didnt throw a code??

Actually, I'd try for a correct reading of the error code first. P1249 doesn't seem to exist for your car, so how did you read it? Where did you look up the wastegate thing?

I went to AutoZone and just used their code reader which showed P1249, and I just googled the code. I cant remember the site I found it on, but it said wastegate control valve performance. it was a cheap reader and i wouldnt doubt that it showed an incorrect code. i reset the ECU, changed the oil, oil filter, oil pressure switch, added oil treatment, and added fuel treatment just for good measure. I spoke to my buddies mechanic and he told me to drive around to see if the check engine light comes back on, and when/if it does im going to head back to him and let him run diagnostics. hopefully its the oil pressure switch and the problem doesnt come back, but i have a feeling that wasnt the issue...

Anything higher than P0999 is specific to the carmaker. So P1249 for Ford or Chevy would mean something COMPLETELY different.

AZ's reader probably didn't translate it, if they set it for Honda, because P1249 doesn't show up in Honda's list.
