02 Accord V6L ECU problem - Please Help
Hi, I own a 02 Accord V6L. A very good car, comfortable and all that.
However, the yellow ECU light came on and when I took it back to the Honda Dealer, they ran some diagnostics, and I was told I need to replace the ECU unit . The cost is around AU$2,300. At times the red SRS light also comes on as well.
I understand this model was manufactured in USA. I live in Australia. I have tried to source a 2nd hand unit from Australia, however, there are not that many cars of this model that is wrecked. Hence, none of the wrecker companies can help me.
Can someone recommend a fix for me, Thank You. Alternatively, I am hoping someone can recommend where (in USA) I can purchase a 2nd hand unit of the ECU.
Thank you

Can you get the OEM part number for your PCM? If that part number is the same as one of the US made PCMs, then you can order from a junkyard (car-part.com) or Ebay.
You will have to see if they will ship it to Australia for you.

First I would want to be sure the ECU is bad. Check Engine Light (CEL) on does not indicate a bad ECU,...most of the time. I would suggest getting someone to download the OBD2 codes for you or buy an inexpensive code reader, generally $50-$100 US.
I believe the Obd1 codes are readable on an 02 (and later) Accords. You have to short across pins 4 & 9. See following url ("forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=636707"). CEL will flash OBD1 codes (long flashes=10 and short flashes=1). Note this will also allow SRS codes to be read. See link for details. If you have any troubles, PM your email and I'll forward a PDF of this for you to use.
If CEL produces real codes I would be inclined to run them to ground before pursuing ECU replacement.
good luck
