Default '06 Accord Keys Help(They're Crazy Expensive)

I lost a master and valet keys. That leaves me with only one master. My local dealer wants to charge $95 for the master plus$55 for the valet and $90 to programthem for a grand total of $240. Is this the going rate or is it high? I presume there's no alternative but to have a Honda dealer do these keys? Locksmiths don't do these, right?

The keys still need to be programmed;
it never fails to amaze me that the auto industry is driven by Consumer desires; yet the Consumers are the first ones to whine about the new technology that costs more. [sm=violin.gif]

I work for a Ford dealer (I know, I know stop laughing but I drive Honda) and we sell P.A.T.SPassive Anti Theft System keys for $26 and charge $85 to program them. It may seem like robbery but its not. Each key has a chip in it that sens a pulse tto the igniton box when the tumbler is turned to therun position.Theft keys make it so some low-life cant justshove a screwdriver in your key tumbler and drive off.

"Whining," huh? Okay, if $240 isn't too much to pay, then YOU pay it for me. You can't tell me that these keys aren't $10 worth of electronics in a $95 package. Let alone the outrageous $90 to "program" the key, which is probably just to stick it into a computerized box and punch a few keys on a keyboard. Hey, here's a crazy concept: charge an extra $10 on eavery car sold and cut keys at a REASONABLE price! $185 for a master key is pure bull****[:@]. Does anyone out there have anything constructive to add? Yes please..no off color words Thank You!

The way we program keys is by using an IDS system that access the security module, this process takes almost20 mins just to get the module to allow you to program keys. The IDS we use isnt exactly cheap, its a panasonic toughbook laptop, that costs around 12,000 after all the programs and diag equipment that come with it.Hondas way of doing this may be different but In case you havent noticed all Honda dealer parts are expensive, but they are top quality parts.Just dont lose your keys anymore

Hey WHINER, you are the one that HAD to have a car with immobilizer system. And YOU are the one that LOST the keys.
Do you walk around dropping $240 cash out of your hand everyday?
