Default 06 EXL 5sp w/ engine issues...

Hi all - first time poster, so be gentle. Didn't find anything relevant on seach, so here it goes. I have an 06 EXL 4dr with a 5spd. This morning I was on my way to work, and all of a sudden my CEL came on, and I lost all power above 2500 RPM. No smoke, no noise, no signs of malfeasance. Now, keep in mind, auto zone isnt an option at this point as its barley drivable - so no guff on the CEL code please... Anyhow, it runs and starts fine, will rev up, but after that 2500 RPM mark it just cuts off like a rev limiter...anyone ever see this happen? I am hoping some sort of computer glitch or sensor malfunction....but those are just hopes. It's got 42k miles on it, and I've had it since new - thankfully I have HondaCare, but we'll see if they weasel out of covering it or not... :\

Any ideas on what might be causing this and how much it will cost. Let's just say, I dont have full confidence in my dealer....

Well...since you can't/don't want to take it to autozone to get the code and don't trust your dealer..

Umm...not really much we can do for you/tell you.

IMO - You're better off just calling your dealer and either driving it over or having it towed over so they can deal with it. I dont know what warranties are on the new cars but I'd imagine yours is still covered.

It sounds like something tripped limp-home mode. You HAVE to get the codes read. Almost any shop has a code reader.

Not that I'm not willing to get the codes read...just no auto parts store within a resonable distance to where I broke down. I've read a bunch of posts both here, and elsewhere about a limp-home mode......what is concerning? the dealer had *never* heard of that ever happening....

Its called "limp mode" thats what most people in the Honda community call it. Some may even say "safe mode", basically your engine's computer is limiting what the engine/drivetrain can do so it doesn't break but gives you just enough power to get somewhere safe, off the road, etc.
