Default 07 EX-L: Sucking noise from rear suspension

2007 EX-L NAV, I4 5AT, 30k miles I've had this car about 3 months. There's a "sucking" noise coming from -- as far as I can tell -- the driver's side rear shock. It's definitely not a clunk, rattle, or click, but the sound of air "whooshing" through, and it happens every time I hit a bump. It sounds a lot like the hydraulic pistons for hoods or trunk lids. I can replicate the sound by having someone push down on the LR bumper.

I haven't done any type of suspension work before, and I haven't been able to find any references to other Accords having this problem. Could someone give me some pointers it terms of diagnosing and fixing this? Right now it's only a minor nuisance, but I want to confirm whether this is the type of problem that will get more expensive if ignored.

Thanks.

I appologize but I have not seen that issue come through. If you have the time it might be worth taking the shock assembly out, removing the spring and see if you get the piston to make a similar noise. The other thing you can do is push down on the center of the rear bumper and carefully watch to see the response of the shocks on each side. If the RR bounces a little more then the LR then it may be the that there is an issue with the shock. Given the fact that you have low mileage means that the car has done a lot of sitting and the o-rings could be failing due to dry rot which is the arch nemesis of any Honda.

No problem. What you suggest is a bit beyond my expertise, and tool supply, at the moment. I'm wondering if there's any inspection I could do simply by pulling the wheel off...? Thanks again.
