100,000 mile maint on wifes Accord
Hello everyone, new to the forum and was pointed in this direction for a couple questions.
We have a 2000 Accord with the V-6 Auto. We bought it new and has been a great car since day 1. Car now has over 100,000 miles on it and a mechanic friend told me that if we plan on keeping it, there is some thingswe should do to it in regards to changing timing belt or somethign to that effect. What exactly is recomended that I have done to this car to help ensure another 4-5 years of reliable service out of it? I am somewhat handy and will entertain doing it myself unless it is deemed to be a total mess of a job, I will just have my mechanic buddy fix it. He mentioned timing chain and water pump I believe.... can you all give me the scoop?
What all should I do to this car since we plan on keeping it and have over 100k on it? Thanks in advance !

Timing belt, water pump, and oil seals should be changed at 105k. Ordinarily the cost is anywhere from $400-$800. Anything under $500 is a really good deal. It is a lot of labor.

They are dirt cheap (a few dollars a piece) and they might as well be replaced while the timing belt and water pump is changed since they are readily accessible with the parts off.
Also I would go ahead and replace the drive belts (alternator, power steering, A/C -also cheap) if they haven't been done in a while.

I'm almost in the same boat as you .... I have 90k. In addition to above, I'd add a PCV valve and gromet, new spark plugs (NGK or Denso only), 3 tranny fluid changes w/ 10 miles driven between changes, replace as many rubber vacuum hoses with silicone as you can, new radiator hoses (preferably Silicone, OBX makes them and their about the same price as rubber). Have the battery tested and change if needed. Change power steering and brake fluid. Flush the cooling system multiple times and rinse even more. Change the cabin air filters. Seafoam the intake. Marvel Mystry Oil in the crankcase, then flush the engine.
Most of this stuff can be done pretty easily at home and fairly cheaply too.

Are you talking about the manual for the 2000 V6? The interval for the t-belt and spark plugs on that changed to 105k.
The rest of the items are probably recommended to be done long before 100k.
