wow, $800 on a v6 tbelt? we charge about $1200. this includes: [ul][*]t-belt[*]water pump[*]coolant[*]t-belt auto tensioner[*]t-belt idler pulley and tensioner pulley[*]alt and ps drive belt[/ul]
i could see $580 for just the tbelt and labor, but if the tensioner fails the engine is done. if a pulley is noisy it's another $500 labor plus the part.

# 1,, there should be no extra labor added to replace the idler pulley and the tension pulley and 1 of them you have to remove anyway to replace the water pump .If any, there should be no more that 1/2 hr added to the job ..
# 2,, idler pulley $ 41.28
# 3 ,, tensioner pulley # 74.42

x2 on the rip off!!!! $1200 for 1.5 hours of work?!? Looks like I chose the wrong profession!!! Wouldn't it be nice if you actually saw that hourly rate?!?
Typical seems to be $600 for everything that you listed but the accessory belts .... they are unrealated and are usually a DIY item.
************************************************** **
I replaced the silicone vacuum hoses because they were rubber and that deteriorates ..... IDK if Japanese rubber lasts longer than American, but for the price, the protection was worth it to me. I don't agree with you on the radiator hoses either. Aluminum and copper will always outlast plain black rubber unless there is an accident involved .... simple physics here. PCV valve ..... for a few bucks, nothing lasts forever and you're the first person that I've ever heard say not to change it. Hmmm ..... with the worst tranny that Honda ever made, I'd say that the tranny fluid changes are pretty important. When I flushed my radiator when I installed the hoses, I flushed twice with vinegar and water ..... then I flushed with water 5 times and guess what!!!! It was still a bit dirty on the last flush!!! That's enough for me to recommend it, especially since most people never change it unless there is a problem! I used Peak Lifetime yellow coolant because from my research, it is superior to Honda's coolant and all others in the price range. The spark plugs are $11.71 each from NGK, so again you are doubling the price. Brake fluid is rarely done, so the 100k tune-up should include that. We agree on the air filters. I've read about Seafoam a lot and have tried it once ..... I like it. It is the only cleaner that I know of that goes into the intake manifold that is not a carb or throttle body cleaner .... I'm trying to clean the manifold, valves and upper cylinder here, so this is the correct product.
Please don't take this personally, I just don't agree with a lot of your post ..... doesn't mean that I don't respect you or your opinions.

RE: 100,000 mile maint on wifes Accord
Seriously?$1200? Dang. I got tbelt, water pump, seals, alt belt, ps belt, and my rotors resurfaced at a Honda Certified shop in town for a touch over $500. The dealerships in town charge $600. I didn't get the tensioners done though. That was on my 4cyl, but they quoted me the same thing on the V6 (around $450 without the rotor resurfacing job.)
Andwhere are you buyingstock spark plugs (NGK PZFR5F-11)for $150 for 6 (that makes the $25 each-are you kidding?). I bought some at advance auto parts a few weekends ago fora little under$10 each. That's $60 for 6. if you don't have an Advance Auto Parts nearby you can get them online at sparkplugs.com for $11.71 each.
I guess I'm just a Mississippi simpleton. Things must be a lot more expensive in Chicago!

yeah, it's $1200 because of all the parts. our parts dept. is kind of high...they charge about $24 each plug! i was basing the quotes off of our prices.
labor is 5.0 (@$108.50/hr), so $542.50 labor and the rest is parts. it's the managers decision to include all the parts under the timing covers as a preventitive.no extra labor to replace them. every t-belt we do includes the water pump and a valve adjustment(except the v6).
it takes me 1.5 to do it, not the majority of the techs in the shop. i'm slightly faster with the shop foreman(i was his apprentice). keep in mind i don't take my time when i work, i work fast and accurately. so my 1.5 job takes the guy accross from me 4.0.
civics pay 3.5, crvs pay 4.0, preludes 5.0, accords 4cyl pays 5.0. all these include valve adjustment and all drive belts/balancer belt, etc(prelude is a pita valve adjustment btw)
i only say pass on the pcv valve because they very rarely go bad on well maintained engines now-a-days. since most ppl who bring their car to the dealer follow the maint. recommendations to the letter there are very few problems with them. when you pop a valve cover off andthe valvetrainlooks like the day it was made....it brings a tear to my eye
your coolant advise is good, flushing it always good if done right. but in a real world shop our services used to flush the coolant every 45k or 3 years or so. it was never really dirty or contaminated. flushing it your way until clean water comes out can take some time. in a shop we just drain the radiator and block and call it a day.(unless the coolant is obviously trashed in the drain pan)
the radiator hoses(in my experience) outlast radiators. it's just always been that way. we get early 90 accords with the original radiator and hoses and the hoses are still firm and ok, not soft, swollen or leaking. we still recommend replacement of them at that time though. maybe i'm just lucky? that dang lower radiator hose clamp corrodes and rusts in no time though.
brake fluid is done all the time in our shop. honda says it should be done every 3 years(they used to say every 2 years). ppl come in expecting it to be done on the first day of their third year owning the car!
i won't take yourcomments personally, i welcome everyone to share their opinions and experiences. i'm just glad to throwmine out there and mix things up! [8D]thanks for the respect, i'm so new here...

RE: 100,000 mile maint on wifes Accord
its a wonder you stay in buisness my friend. that is extremely too much for all of that. I have a Honda shop about 4 miles from home here and they charge a flat $450 for V6 hondas and $350 for I4's. they include the tensioners, water pump, oil seals, drive belts(all of them), and new hoses.

no problem desert, I'll try and get a pic of the road sign, thats where they have it advertised. as far as I know they use honda parts, Ive never went there myself since im mostly a DIYer.
here you guys go, I got permission from the shop guys to take the pic.
