Gentlemen, please try to remember that HondatechAV6 does not own his shop, does not set the prices and is not "in" or capable of "going out of" business. I realize that we all relate the prices that he's mentioned to "his" business, but some of the recent posts have a stonger tone than is necessary.

No harm, no foul; but we have to be conscience of this issue lest we behave as badly as some of the "other" car forums.

I agree. I know that he doesn't set the prices. And I sincerely appreciate his input to the forum. We can never have too many Honda Techs around here!

WOW.. drummer ,, my man ,,if they use HONDA PARTS that price cannot be beat ..
As a matter of facts I would reccomend any members here that need a timing belt done, to take advantage of such a great deal

Again ,,assuming they are using Honda factory parts .and assuming they replace the water pump, tensioner, seals and outer belts as well ..

but even if they use some decent non-honda parts , that price for parts and labor is still pretty good ,assuming there are no hidden extras involved ..

Yeah, I understand that. That's why I said i'm glad I don't live in chicago. I'm sure the rent etc is a lot more expensive than most places and that's why it's so high. Rent out here is pretty cheap and that's most likely why local places are about 70 and dealer is 80.

drummer1279: have you verified if they use oem parts? That's a pretty freaking amazing deal if they do.

I did not think that any one here is jumping on Hondatech,,(and if we did than i apologize to Hondatech ,) we are all making a comment on the price that the dealership where he works charges..

we are all aware that he has nothing to do with it..wether parts department charges 200 or 500 dollars for parts. he does not make any extra money..
He still gets paid the same amount of hrs for labor ..

I got some lug studs replaced at that shop about a year and a half ago, and they asked me how long had it been since the timing belt was done.., i told them it had already been done, I asked them what they did and both of them told me they replace, the timing belt, balance shaft belt, the tensioners, all the oil seals, drive belts and main radiator hoses. they however charged me $40 to replace 2 studs on my left rear wheel.if you want to call them to see if they do use OEM parts the area code is 864.

DH .... no specific referances, I just wanted to say something before anything got out of hand. After all, he is new here and I'd hate for him to abandon us because he felt mistreated.

UHM,, no water pump.. , I am surprise that a shop that speciaslizes on Hondas does not include the water pump when doing a timing belt job ..

yeah, no water pump = very fast t-belt.

i wasn't offended by anything, the shop is in downtown Gold Coast area.

fyi - an apartment in the goldcoast area is around $1200 - that's one bedroom!

i believe the foreman makes at least $29/hr, but personally i believe it's closer to $35/hr, and then you add on group leader bonuses and factor in (on average) 12-16 hours days normally, it adds up!

oops I forgot to add that in there...sorry, they did say they replace the WP as well, I was in a hurry typing it out last night, I could have swore I put it in there. I did ask them if I just wanted the timing belt replaced what would they charge and they said they wouldnt do it. upon asking them why one of them said because Im not going to take the thing apart twice when you come back saying your water pump is bad. good catch there desert.
