I changed over to syn on my civic at 155k and had no problems...i changed over to syn on my accord at 110k and have had no problems. The one thing that i do notice is better starts during cold weather...i'm talking like 20 degrees F or colder. There is way less noise coming from the valves, etc. until the engine reaches operating temperature. Had no oil leaks either. I'm with desert on changing oil every 3000k miles at least- whether its syn or dino.

I abused my poor car to test this theory and went about 7k on oil that was supposedly good for that and then had a mechanic change it and I never told him what I had done.... he tossed me the keys, said it's all taken care of then commented about how thick and dark it looked...

RE: 155K, stay with regular oil or go to synthetic?
thanks for everyones replies. I change my oil every 5000 miles to the number. I think 3000 is too much and anything over 5K no matter what oil you are using is WAY to much even for synthetic. I think I will try going with mobil 1 synthetic and see how it helps. If I start to leak I guess I can always go back to regular oil to help put those deposits back and clog the holes. lol
Hey, I can't find it but I was reading a post here recent where some member here was talking about an engine cleaner you ran for 7500 miles or something like that? AREX or something like that was the name. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? If so, is it a good worthwhile product or just another gimic?

for your change intervul, don't waste your cash.....honestly it isn't worth it. They did a test and mobil 1 lasted 12k+ in a LS1 V8 so I am sure you can extend out your change intervuls a little. I have every 4.5K due to temp extremes here where I live

Oil change w/filter three times a year - approx $30.
On the other hand - Stopped on I-80 for a stalled vehicle and found the owner had not changed the oil at a reasonable interval and the engine locked up. Cost to repair - $3,700.
You decide.

any major brand oil is good, they are all pretty much the same, however, get rid of the Fram filter. shoddy construction and not a lot of filter media. youd be better off using a WAL-MART brand filter. personally I use WIX.

i use fram filter never had a prb with it, so does my brother and it got almost 160k. I think as loeast you use a decent name brand and change it when ever it should be changed. itll be good.
