1986 Accord automatic transmission noise???

1986 Accord automatic transmission noise???
Hi guys, I'm new this forum and I have a question about my old 86
There is a grinding noise from the automatic transmission when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. It is not there if I apply little throttle or I go WOT but anything in between I get this grinding noise. It has been doing this for years and never got worse or better. I still don't know where it is from. Dealers and tranny shops would love to charge me $3000 for the noise to be gone but it is very hard to justify on a $500 car.
