Try unplugging the electrical connector to the EGR valve and see if the car starts and runs.

Negative. No change. As soon as it would be settling into a normal idle it dies and no throttle can keep it running. It is like the spark shuts off. I find it strange that the ignition control module fixed it for a short time. What controls the ICM?

The ECU controls the ICM. I hate saying that you should replace the ECU without some evidence, because it may not solve the problem. Sometime the TCU (transmission computer) can also cause the ECU to mess up. If you can find a u-pull-it yard, then you can reduce the cost, because buying new is very expensive (if the parts are available anymore).

You may want to pull the 7.5 amp backup/radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box for a minute to reset the ECU, insert the fuse, then try starting the car again.

I was trying to figure out ways to eliminate the EGR as the culprit, because your symptoms sound like an EGR valve stuck open. You did eliminate that problem.

Another test you can try is to have an assistant spray starting fluid/carb cleaner into the throttle body with the snorkel removed. If the car can stay running while spraying fuel into the throttle body, then you may be missing fuel.

No change after pulling the fuse.

The only junkyard near me had an ecu. Swapped it out and no change. Starts and dies.

I think trying the starting fluid with an assistant can identify a fuel delivery problem.

I will try it when I have an assistant. Thanks!

BINGO! I can keep it running with a small stream of starting fluid which means it is not the spark that is cutting out it is fuel. What could make the fuel cut off after the initial high idle/start?

I assume the fuel pump/filter are good since it starts with no problem.

Several items can cause loss of fuel that you will have to narrow down. Do you have a volt meter or better a test light to verify voltage on wires?
