1993 Accord Starts, then Shuts Off
College car is out of state; trying to diagnose long distance. I'm a new member, but have had lots of older Honda's to troubleshoot. End of July replaced timing belt, water pump, adjusted valves, new battery, rebuilt starter. Sent car off to college with my kid. 240K miles, well maintained; 4 cyc, non v-tech, auto EX.
No precursor to problem. Don't know if this is related, but about a week ago SRS light stayed lit while car was running. After car was shut off that time, have had no further problems with SRS light. Car starts, but as soon as you let go of the key it shuts off. From listening over the phone, if key is held on starter sounds like it is staying engaged and seems fine. The starter I put in was rebuilt from Autozone. Any suggestions would be appreciated as to what to try before it has to be towed to a garage. I don't mind buying some plug and play parts. Thanks in advance.

The ignition switch on this generation Accord is known to develop a short after extended use. My 1993 LX did this as well. I bought a new switch , easy installation, and all is back to normal.

Confirm what bigpat says.
This is a common problem on Accords of many models. It's less than an hour for even a neophyte diy'r.
Search youtube for some excellent video explanations of this job.

good luck
