Default 1994 Accord EX--Distributor Key broke from one side

Hi Guys-

So I was trying to troubleshoot stuff on my car after doing a HG and I broke one side of the Distributor key.

Key which goes into the camshaft has 2 ends, now one end is broke and only one is left.

Please have a look on the picture(Generic pict, not of my distributor), my question is can I just replace the part/key or I have to get a new distributor?

Please advise and help since I am having a real tough time and days with the car

Thanks in advance for the help

You can replace the key. Honda doesn't sell the key, so you would have to get one from a junkyard.

You first have to mark the key and the shaft with whiteout or a marker. Remove the snap ring, then remove the metal pin. Then you have to line up the new and old key to make sure you mark the new off set properly.

Installation is the reverse.

How did the key brake? Were you able to retrieve the piece that broke off?

I was having real engine issues after doing the HG:

I thought, maybe Distributor key is reversed causing the car to give such a horrible engine noise and almost 'Zero' power, so I was trying to reverse the key and crank

I still have to find the broken piece of the key by pulling the valve cover.

Thanks for the help, I am gonna try to find either the key or maybe a complete distributor from junkyard.

Can we assume you still have the issues (knowing now that you can't start the car)?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I am having all the issues, including another one that distributor key is broke too

I did not try to start the car after the key broke, can I still start the car? Honestly, I didn't try after the key broke, because don't wanna mess up something else

I'd be a bit worried running the engine with just on tab on the dist.

Alright here is an update about this issue.

I fixed all the timing and valves adjustment and took a gamble by installing the distributor with a broken key.

Tried to crank the car and viola it fired right up.

Now my question is, if I drive it like this is this a problem or would it be fine?Any cheapest way I can get just the key, because new distributor is like $200

Thanks again for all the help and cooperation guys, really appreciate it.

I'd be looking at bone yards?

With one tab I'm sure it "might" hang in there for some period of time. My worry is that the last tab will "give up" at some point - and if the car is running with some amount of rpm then that last tab will "fly" around.

Save some money and keep an eye on e-bay and or local bone yards for a used/new dist.

Guys, final update for the distributor key.

First of all thanks so much to PAHonda for helping me out for the Dist key and then, as always to poorman. But unfortunately, I broke that off( I know, am stupid )

I pulled '2' distributor keys from pick and pull place, finally fixed it yesterday and now car has 'Both' teeth

I have one spare key sitting, if anyone in need PM me

So at least, distributor key issue is resolved now
