1994 Accord--Finished Head Gasket and now no Power
#21
I have "1994 Honda Accord Shop Manual.PDF" document. Also, painting the marks is definitely and great 'idea' am gonna follow it. Thanks for it.
Alright, thanks for the pointer, am gonna check it under Ignition system.
What you say about this?

Thanks very much man, but mine is definitely different because I have Timing Belt and all engine description stuff.
Can you please tell me your document name and number of pages? I am gonna search and download it.

One more thing again, will the car idle rough, stall or something if the timing is off?
Because my idle is perfectly fine and gauge is dead on as well.
Also, what will happen if I advance the distributor all the way forward towards the radiator? Because my car is a complete stock car.

Say you're standing at the right-front fender, looking at the distributor. If you mean twist the distributor clockwise ("forward"??) that is actually retarding the timing.
If the spark is retarded (later than it should be) your engine would feel sluggish, with less power & lower MPG. Emmissions might show low NOx and high unburned HC.
If the spark is advanced (earlier than it should be) your engine would feel OK but NOx emmissions would be higher. A bit more spark-advance and you can get pre-ignition & detonation, which will damage the engine over time.
These are gradual things, so if the timing is very close to correct, the changes are pretty subtle.

Thanks guys for chiming in, really appreciate it.
So in short, I should not be advancing the timing, since it will ruin the engine, right?
My idle is dead on, car starts on first crank in the morning but car seems to hesitate a bit going from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 gear, I do have A/T. Also, RPM gauge kind of hesitates and it's Hard to explain
Can anyone please advice a best way to adjust the 'Timing', should I follow exactly what 'Eric' has done the above posted video?
How can I check if EGR is working? By unplugging the EGR sensor?

That ericthecarguy video is how you adjust the timing. Make sure to have that service connector shorted, so you don't fight the engine computer changing the timing.
You may want to take up the slack in the throttle cable, like in this video:
There is also a similar cable going from the throttle body to the transmission that you want to adjust in pretty much the same way. Just make sure there is some slight slack.
When did you last change the transmission fluid?

Thanks so much for your help Sir.
I have changed the transmission fluid with Genuine Honda ATF, like 2-3 months ago.
I am going to adjust the throttle slack, timing as advised, but how can I adjust the transmission cable? Any video or write up?
