Default 1994 Accord transmission problem

Hey guys, I acquired a 94 Honda Accord EXr (2.2L, 4 cylinder automatic) today. It has ~ 200 000 KM on it. When driving, it drives ok (shifts a little rough). Only when I come to stop at a red light and go again, the car either won't shift out of first gear or the transmission slips (can't go faster than 30). If I pull over, turn the car off and back on again, it will drive normally until I stop again at a red light. It doesn't slip on the highway or going up hills. I am thinking maybe it's an electrical problem. Any suggestions? Maybe solenoid?

No CEL lights or anything, but the ABS and parking brake lights are on if that has to do with anything?

Check for stored codes, TCU not CEL. When it does this and you pull over and put it in Park, does the D4 light stay on. Either way check for codes. You'll want to count the D4 light "blinks" and any others.

let us know what you find there first.

How do i check for tcu codes? Once i pull over and put it into park the d light doesnt come on nor does it ever flash.

I took it for a short drive this morning and it started acting up, went up a short hill and halfway up it lost all gears. I rolled it back down to the bottom, parked it for a bit then it went again.

Half an hour later, I tried disconnecting the solenoid. I got a flashing d4 light, she went around the block once perfectly then acted up again.

In the DIY section there is a post on how to get the codes. Also, when was the last time the fluid was changed?

no clue when it was changed. I decided to change it, the fluid in it was burnt and I found a piece of the gear? tooth attached to the magnetic drain plug. Drives way worse now. Looks like a new tranny it is!

Did you check the transmission fluid level? Where is the fluid level on the dipstick?

Also, look at the condition of the fluid, wipe it on a paper towel. What is the color tone?
