You would be replacing the whole speedometer head. It's not hard; but, you have to remove the center console w/armrest, radio, etc. to get the instrument cluster out. It does take some time.

That's too much for a used speedo head, you could get the entire cluster for less than that.

See post #12 in the following link for the cluster removal instructions.

When removing the cluster, you need to take off the center console; but, you do not need to disconnect/remove the climate control, I usually leave it on and hanging. (The Honda factory service manual also says to disconnect/remove the climate control only if necessary.) I never had to disconnect/remove the climate control.

I also recommend you download the service manual from the links located in one of the stickies at the top of this forum.

Most mechanics don't mess with trying to fix the odometer, they would just replace the unit. Some people have been able to find a used speedo for like $5 - $20 at a salvage yard.

alright thanks for the info. and damn i was just at the junkyard today looking for emblems, i didnt even think about looking at speedos. this is kind of off topic, but do you have any idea what would be making this squeak? it seems like whenever i engage the clutch or there is pressure it makes this noise--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ5N9QdcFdU&list=UUrLsRKybgN7nomzDsnEu3DQ& index=1&feature=plcp you can hear it in the very beginning of the video
