Default 1994 Honda Accord LX engine trouble

I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX which isidling/running rough

It was running just fine then the symptoms started.

I have checked and have the following:

Timing is correct
Compression on all 4 cylinders
Spark to all four cylinders
Checked wire, distributor cap and rotor and are all OK.
Spark plugs are gapped correctly but appear all carbon soot.
All the fuel injectors appear to be firing.

With the car running I can pull wires from cylinder 1 and 4 and there is no change im performance. When each wire from cylinder 3 & 4 are pulled are will stall out.

No check engine light on and no codes are stored .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default RE: 1994 Honda Accord LX engine trouble

The "dead miss" indication on cylinders 1 & 4 suggests a spark delivery issue. Note, a full time miss (dead miss) on 2 cylinders would run very rough and engine would likely stall. Are you sure the miss is every power stroke? If yes, then most likely bad plugs, bad spark plug wires or both. I would first spray the spark plug wires w/ a water mist in early evening and look for sparks jumping from the spark plug wires to ground. If you see sparks, new wires are indicated.

I've had plugs that looked OK, but ran badly. New plugs may help and are a cheap fix.

If the car runs better w/ cold engine temps (open loop operation) and then starts missing when reaching operating temp (closed loop), the O2 sensor could be failing. The O2 sensor can get pretty bad before setting a code and cause drivability symptoms.

good luck
