1997 aftermarket gauges/VSS/issues
ok so I took out the gauges in my wife's 97 Accord ex 6 cyl automatic, i reheated every solder joint i could find, and now the speedo works much more often than it used to, but it will still cut out randomly. The tach/rpms are also still jumpy.
I went to the honda dealership to see if i could get a new gauge cluster, but they want over 200 for just the speedo and another 160 for the tach. they don't sell the entire cluster.
I know you can get them on like e-bay and whatnot, but I don't want to buy gauges that have been used becuase there is no guarantee of how long they will continue to work, I'd really rather install a new part.
Has anyone bought aftermarket gauges ? i don't care if they are another color or anything like that, i just want new gauges that won't cost me several hundred dollars.
Also, yesterday the speedo cut out randomly, and the check engine light came on again. (it went off after i re-heated the solder joints on the back of the speedo.) I'm sure that if i take it to get an obd2 test it will read that the VSS is bad, (that's what it read the day i reheated the solder joints) I might just get the vss (like 90 bucks at auto zone) but was wondering if anyone else's accord's check engine light came on when the gauges started having issues?
Thanks for any help or experiences with the aftermarket gauges.
